“Nice but minimal floor space”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2011

The room was nice and newly decorated and the bed was queen-sized and comfortable. Large bathroom and very good location - easy tram from the train station. However, floor space was minimal so the suitcases had to be opened on the bed and then closed and stacked on the floor. Nice breakfast included.

Brilliant location, just a 10 minute walk upto the RLD and station. No need to get the tram..wish we knew that before! although the tram driver let us jump on for free!

Hotel itself had a very modern lobby. friendly staff and a drinks machine if you wanted one. the stair were a little steep but this is holland and is expected! not a problem. the room was very nice indeed. again small but was expected. gorgeous bathroom with a lovely walk in shower. TV with lots of channels.

breakfast was lovely. standard continental. maybe could of done some english fry up but not a problem.

Only slight negative was on the first night i could hear a little noise form the street, i am a very light sleeper and it woke me up about 3am but went straight back to sleep after 2 minutes! other than that it was a perfect trip! would definitely stay here again and am in the process of booking another trip already!

Room Tip: maybe ask for a lower level floor

It's a comfy hotel, with very good bathroom (2 showers!), good price and friendship staff. The bed is very good and clean. In March, we stayed there for 2 days with good weather (without rain) and walk everywhere. In this location is unecessary take tram or train. And Amsterdam is a grat city! Just an observation: there isn't elevators and we stayed at the 4th floor!!!

Stayed in room 406 the "Africa Room". A lot of people moan about the stairs, and the fact is there are a lot of them if you're on the 4th floor and they are steep, but its Amsterdam and that's what you get, heck you get a free work out so its not that bad! We stayed from Tuesday to Sat during the English school holidays. Start of the week was great, room was at the front of the hotel but very little people noise, the trams run to midnight and could be heard about every 15/20mins.

The room was basic, 5 hooks on the wall was the only space to hang clothes up, there was no wardrobe or bedside cabinates, just too small circular bedside tables with lamps. The room was modern, very clean and was different, quirky, we liked it. Very small but again that's amsterdam, the bed was super comfy which was lovely. Bathroom was floor to ceiling tiled, great driftwood feature mirror and double shower, you could however use the toilet and brush your teeth at the same time (which could be advantageous if you get some bad herring!) it was certainly compact but was stylish and functional.
Friendly enough service. Could have benefitted from more storage space, there was a phone in the room, no tea or coffee fascilities (no space for them) there was plasma cable TV which was a plus, certainly made a good base to explore Amsterdam. Literally 2 mins from the flowermarket and tram stops to wherever you want to visit. Amsterdam got VERY busy from Friday/Sat with lots of tourists and loud drunken british tourists which made the street noise louder (and probably would have been an issue on a lower floor) best take a nicer, quieter early-mid week stay!

Pros-
Very central location. Amsterdam is a very walkable city, and this was near everything.
Lots of restaurants and shopping in the immediate vicinity
Room was basic, bathroom was very clean
Staff was accommodating
Reasonably priced

Cons-
next to a "coffee shop" so our room smelled like marijuana, especially the bathroom...
room itself could have been cleaner, carpet was stained in places, and so were the curtains.
Room was at back of hotel, and we were on first floor, so it was really dark.

Can't really say enough good things about this hotel. Staff was friendly, and room was large by Amsterdam standards, with comfortable bed. Bathrooms were modern and clean, but plan to bring a hairdryer if you need one. Hotel is centrally located with restaurants, museums and shopping nearby. You can easily walk to most places, but the tram is right there if you need it. Breakfast was standard fare, with hardboiled eggs, cheese, cold cuts, bread, croissants, cereal, juice and coffee. Breakfast is only served until 10 am, which is my only complaint.

I stayed at Acostar hotel for 3 nights in Amsterdam and the pictures on their homepage is exactly what you get!

The room was really nice, small but in excellent condition. We had two beds me and my sister, and there was a small cabinet for ones cloth. The beds was REALLY good to sleep in some of the best I ever sleept at and better than most 4 star hotels beds.

The room was cleaned to perfection and it was a nice room with both a small table and two chairs and a flat screen with som english channels as well.

The bathroom was spotless clean and in perfect condition! And it had a nice bathtub. Only thing for the girls to remember is a hair dryer!

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpsome at all time, and it was possible to buy some snacks and coca cola/beer etc. at the reception from a machine.

Breakfast was included in the price and it was great for the price. There was toasts with jam, cheese, chocolate etc. and cornflakes, choco pops, juice, milk coffee and so on. Simple but good for the price.

This hotel is really great for the price at overall! We gave 215 euro for 3 nights stay including breakfast. I would definately use this hotel again when I visit Amsterdam next time and warmly recommend it if a small room but nice room is okay for you!

This hotel is percect for gay people also as it is very central to the gay area! (a quiet, nice and safe area)

We walked to things like Heineken, Market, shopping district, the amsterdam dungeon etc.
