This is one of my favourite streets in the city with its small shops, cafes and even coffee shops. it has a very mellow and laid back atmosphere and it leads to the beautiful Westerpark which is not as famous as the vondelpark but is really nice and less crowded.
il tramzinni - great sandwich and coffee.
two for joy - great coffee and pastries.

Start at the end of the Nieuwedijk, cross the bridge and fall into the Haarlemmerstraat / Haarlemmerdijk. You will find a lovely shopping street not (yet) "blurred" by the big name store chains, but many lovely little specialty shops and cosy cafe's and coffee places. (Where you can drink coffee). Go all the way to the Haarlemmerpoort and return through the canals at the back of this street. Here you find more interesting canals that are of the beaten path and sometimes even more interesting. At least they are more authentic than the big known ones. Ohh, and don't forget to look up. Some of these historic houses still have their original fronts.

One of the most popular streets for shopping, very crowded during the day but certainly a pleasant place to stroll and admire the fantastic historical buildings of the city.
Countless restaurants, pubs and coffee shops, enjoy also some tiny typical souvenir in one of the many souvenirs shops along this stunning street.

We went down this street to visit the Marqt. Quite a busy little street. Lots of "coffee shops" but also lots of other tourist shops and restaurants.
