Four of us (2 couples) decided to come over from the UK to spend New Year's Eve in Amsterdam. District 5 was a chance selection from Trip Advisor reviews, particularly as it was fairly convenient for our hotel. What a lucky choice! We had a really excellent NYE, and it was good to find an Italian restaurant with excellent ambience, caring staff and excellent, well-presented food. A refreshing change from the usual chain operation. It was also nice to find that no silly inflated NYE prices were in operation. We understand the current chef (owner?) and partner have been in place for the last year and we wish them all the best with their venture. Thoroughly recommended.

This would be a perfect neighbourhood restaurant - interesting interior space, nicely located in a quirky square, pleasant outdoor area. Some of the simpler dishes are perfect, but the more adventurous (tournedos) are unsubtle and uninteresting. Great coffee and staff.

with so much to choose from in Amsterdam, we looked for a restaurant online and picked this one as it looked 'cozy' which it sure is! Straight of the bat, the owner recommended a wine that wasn't on the wine list but assured us that it was fantastic and not badly priced, both of which was appreciated. the wine did not disappoint, and neither did the pizza!! crispy, thin base with only the freshest ingredients bought from the best suppliers and markets in Amsterdam. we got talking to this very eccentric, long haired Roman and his beautiful dutch girlfriend until we were the only people left. we will definitely be back, what a sweet, down to earth, no fancy frills, great food restaurant!

My wife and I visited district 5 based on reviews we found online, we were expecting a busy authentic restaurant with great food. We settled in and ordered some drinks from the owner, then placed our orders. There were only 3 tables including us in the restaurant.. all of us north american tourists. I had the veal appetizer which was big enough to be an entree. It was very dry and as served with a gross tuna mayo. My wife had the warm seafood salad which was mostly cold, enormous and not very good. For dinner she oredered tortelli which happens RL be in quotation marks on the menu, when it arrived it was ravioli, she mentioned this to our new server (I suspect the owner was embarrassed to serve us as we clearly did not enjoy our apps) and the server said "nobody has ever noticed" .. weird. I had the lamb which was served with a small portion of saffron rice and french fries, it was OK nothing to get excited about. Overall it was very average and quite expensive €110 for 2
