“Such an awful service.”
Reviewed May 3, 2011

Such an awful service. No maners at all from the waiter. The story began when we were trying to figuered out if ther was a mistake in the tiket. We were charge 16 euros for two plastic bottles of 1liter of water (8 EUR each) while the 0.5 liter one cost 2 euros. We asked him if he could please show us the price in the menu. He couldn´t because it was not published. Just asked us how much did we paid for a bottle of water in a hotel. (???) I just respond that I have never bought a bottle of water in a hotel in Amsterm because as long as I live here I normally drink tab water, but I could told him that in Apie I could buy it for no more than 2/3 euros. I think the more expensive bottle of water I´ve ever paid in AMS is 4 euro, in Baan Thai in the Amstelveenseweg 83 (such a lovely place, and reealy nice food and service). All of the sudden he started blaming us because our country. We said that we just wanted to see the price in the menu, as long as the menu said it was 8 euro we had no problem at all. He did not show us ... from the waiter. The story began when we were trying to figuered out if ther was a mistake in the tiket. He did not show us the price any where, just kept balimg us because our origin and saying that every place in AMS chaged that for a bottle of water (more than a year here and never saw that...) and then he finished his statement saying that he came 3 times to our country and always was cheated. (???) Hope no one is treated like this again

“The BEST homemade Chinese food we've had!”
Reviewed October 19, 2009

Royal Mandarin was an extremely pleasant surprise. My boyfriend and I were looking for dinner somewhere not too formal but where we could get a great dinner. We happened upon Royal Mandarin and would now recommend it to anyone. The service was a bit slow but we expected that after being in Europe for 2 weeks and we enjoyed the pace. The waiter might also be the owner and he was extremely friendly and accomodating after we asked several questions about the menu. I had noodles with vegetables and chicken and my boyfriend had egg rolls and pork fried rice. The food was delicious - the sauces were all very light but flavorful, the meals were cooked to perfection and the servings were generous. Each dish was homemade, which is often hard to find in a Chinese restaurant. The atmosphere in the restaurant is comfortable and quiet. It would have been nice to see more people enjoying dinner there, but it was pretty late by the time we finished and had probably been busier earlier in the night. It was a great find for dinner!
