Loved seeing Amsterdam from these marvelous canal boats. You see parts of Amsterdam that you couldn't see on foot...even the harbor. My group and I truly enjoyed cruising through 4 lines of canals. The price is definitely worth it. I highly recommend doing this when you get to the city then decide where you would like to tour on foot. And...when you do tour on foot, please watch out for the thousands of bicyclists. Believe me, you could get run over. YOU WILL BE SO GLAD YOU TOOK THE CANAL BUS. Relax, take photos and accumulate memories.

Visiting Amsterdam from our cruise ship with limited time, we bought combined tickets for canal and bus sightseeing tours from the port information desk. This company's tour was the 'wet' half. It took a while to locate the start point, there being a confusing range of tour signs and not one (that we could see) for the Canal Company.

The one-hour tour was enjoyable with an informative commentary in Dutch, German and English, providing plenty of photo-opportunities. Despite the hot day the boat was reasonably cool with roof and side windows open. Recommended but make sure you get proper directions, not just 'near the station'.

I don't know how the points below also apply to the other cruise companies in Amsterdam, but I will offer here several observations: (1) Canal offers a canal bus service (hop on hop off), which is pretty convenient, but so does Lovers, and the latter's boats tend to be newer. (2) While waiting for another boat, we observed that at one stop (Rijksmuseum), the captain left a boat full of passengers for a FULL FIVE MINUTES to go get a cup of coffee! (3) it seems to be owned by Holland Int'l, and the latter has more modern boats. (4) The (pre-recorded) commentaries tend to be repetitive, and in addition to Dutch and English, sometimes, on the same itinerary, add either French or Italian pretty randomly? We noticed that some cruise companies have a guide giving out live commentaries. In other words, this seems to be one of the worse companies around. And, nobody ever shows a video or gives instructions on safety!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about us. We’re sorry to hear about the bad experience you had with us. We offer commentary in Spanish, Italian, French, English, German and Dutch. It depends on the origin of the passengers which commentaries will be started. A guide with live commentaries is also one of the possibilities at our company, it’s called the Hopper. On the Hopper your skipper will be your guide. We hope, however, that this experience didn’t ruin your stay in Amsterdam and that you had a pleasant time in our capitol.

Kind regards,
Canal Company

I went on the pizza boat cruise and loved it! The staff were very friendly and couldnt do enough for you. The boat was comfortable with indoor and outdoor seating and tables to dine on. The pizza was delicious and hot as it came straight from the shop on the way to our tour...it was fab! Got to see some great sights and the staff onboard told us alot about the history of the sights. I would definately recommend going on this cruise.

We went out on a 12 seater electric launch for the tour from near Central Station. The boat is great, quiet and not crowded. Our skipper Peter was hilarious, we learnt as much about politics, geography, Dutch history, philosophy, art, religion, drugs and prostitution as about the landmarks (don't worry, he is very tactful and doesn't over do it!) and got off after 75 minutes feeling we really knew Amsterdam. He was also fantastic with the two children on board. A little bit more expensive than some other tours but strongly recommended for anyone who doesn't like to be in a big tourist crowd.
