Description: Arriving by train? De Compagnon restaurant in the very heart of Amsterdam’s old city is five strolling minutes from Centraal Station – and it’s worth finding. Down a side alley, De Compagnon seats just 35 diners over three floors with windows and doors that open onto the water of Damrak. Small it may be, but the effect is light and airy, comfortable and cosy. Bert van Buschbach is in the kitchen, creating traditionally-styled French/Burgundian cuisine while Sara van Buschbach’s domain is the front of house and the superb and celebrated French wine list. Meeting facilities are terrific: a private room seating up to 12 and a wine cellar that can accommodate parties up to 20. Private dining here means your own waiter and chef too. Dishes include starter of salad of sautéed scallops crumbed in dried ceps, main course of whole fried guinea fowl with creamy truffle sauce and sliced fresh truffled (for two) and red fruit with curds and red fruit sorbet for dessert. Of the 300 wines, about 200 are listed at under euros 50, with a very nice selection of half bottles.

Came here with a group of colleagues, so we had a fixed menu. Very good food, well presented and interesting. Waiters were friendly and profession, so no complaints in this respect either. Located close to Central Station. Recommended.

I have eaten many times now in the Compagnon Restaurant .The restaurant itself is a beautiful cozy intimate restaurant, and if you are lucky enough you can also have a lovely view over the canals in Amsterdam. But the excellent service and the wonderful menu is my main reason for visiting. I travel three or four times to Amsterdam and I always make sure that I reserve a table well in advance. My last visit to the Compagnon, I brought a friend and needless to say she loved it. The food in this restaurant is out of this world and they also have a great wine list. I will be in Amsterdam again just after Christmas and already have a table for two booked, can't wait.
This is one restaurant that won,t disappoint you.

If you're looking for both French Cuisine excellence and hidden cosyness, this is your place. You'll surprise everyone with the exceptionnal quality of the dishes and the intimate atmosphere. As well as the wine menu, as big as a two Harry Potter books: one for white one for red.

Although this is one of Amsterdam's best places to eat, it is also one of the most expensive. But it will be memorable.

we bought a Groupon for a 2 person meal and it was great value for money and one of the tastiest meals i had in my life, the restaurant is pretty fancy and french - not my style. but the food was really good. it also pretty expensive but we bought a coupon using groupon and really enjoyed the stay there for not too much money.
