Stylish, clean and a luxurious feel. Me and my best friend stayed for 2 nights and this hotel was perfect to make it feel special. The staff were welcoming and very helpful, nothing was too much trouble (they lent us 2 travel plugs at no extra cost and also searched the room for an item we had left in there hours after we had checked out) We asked the reception staff for recommendations on bars and restaurants and they suggested great places, resulting in 2 fantastic nights. Don't let the location put you off as the trams are frequent and its only a 15 min journey into the centre, we actually quite enjoyed it. We bought a 3 day tram pass from the information office opposite centraal train station for 16 euros each and this saved us a lot of money, well worth it.
The Skyy bar on the hotels 10th floor was amazing and had beautiful views over the city, probably the nicest bar we saw in Amsterdam! Perfect way to start off a night out. They have djs on every Friday and Saturday and its open til 1am. Cocktails are between 12-14 euros which is a pretty standard price. The food prices in the hotel seemed rather expensive (the only negative) so we decided not to eat here but the food we did see being served looked nice.
We went to a club called jimmy woos on the recommendation of the lady on reception and this seemed to be one of the more popular places to go as there was a massive queue outside, we decided to be try our luck and walk straight up to the host on the door and ask 'how much it was to get in' and they let us in ;) so being a little bit cheeky certainly paid off! It was 15 euros for anyone thinking of going and I think this is similar for all the decent clubs. There's a little bar opposite called Susie wang's which has a great atmosphere and lovely cocktails. Most of the bars and clubs are on leidsesquare which is 12 euros from the hotel in a taxi.
A lesson we learnt on getting to the hotel from the airport is to get off at lelylaan train station (7 mins from airport) and just walking 5 mins to the hotel. Rather than going to centraal station (16 mins) and then getting the tram to hotel (an extra 20 mins) this will save you a lot of time and messing about with suitcases :)
This is just my personal opinion, but we paid 15 euros each to go to the ice bar across town as we thought it would be a great experience, the offer includes '2 free drinks'.... These 2 free drinks were 2 shots of cherry sours and it's that cold that it's only comfortable to be in there for 10 minutes, they also don't let you take any photos and charge you 10 euros if you do want one... After this you then have to get another tram back into the centre... Just don't bother going... It's not worth it. There's so many amazing things to see that this just felt a big waste of time.
Can't wait to return as there we so many things we didn't get chance to do and will definitely be returning to this hotel!
