Description: De WAAGHALS (= The Dare-devil) is an attractive vegetarian restaurant. The atmosphere is informal, but the food is refined and creative. Organic ingredients are used as much as possible. Each month a dish focuses on a different country. Our menu changes twice a month. There is a large selection of drinks available, from various sorts of tea and fruit juices to different kinds of beer (including locally brewed ones) and organic wines. The interior is very comfortable and on nice summer evenings you can dine outside. De WAAGHALS is very popular with a growing number of non-vegetarians. It is advisable to book in advance

The end of the story is that we didn't get to eat in this place that we had high hopes for, so we can't really say much about the food or service, but we can recommend that you check the opening hours before you go there because we were disappointed twice. It is open only a few (about 4) hours a day and not every day.Again this has nothing to say about the place itself, that might be great...

We wanted to experience a nice restaurant in Amsterdam and chose this one for its vegetarian meals. The quality of the food was very good, especially in comparison to most restuarants in Amsterdam. The service was also very cordial.

Highly recommend this as one of the better restaurants near the museum district area.

De Waaghals was high on our list of places to eat in Amsterdam and we were very happy with the experience.

The food was fantastic. Large servings of hearty vegetarian food. Our two mains consisted of: fried gnocchi, spinach, hazelnut sauce, hot chickpea & tomato salad, tempura mushrooms, veggie croquet, potato mash, more spinach and salad. House wine was nice and my partner enjoyed the beer.

...best of all there is an adorable cat who sat by my side for almost the entire time, getting pats and chin scratches. Too cute!

Great experience. Not cheap but highly recommended for those who appreciate good quality healthy food in a nice atmosphere.

Due Waaghals is somewhat unassuming, set on a backstreet in De Pijp. I visited with my wife and two grown sons for an evening meal. The menu is not extensive, which is no bad thing. Starters were all a bit pricey, so we had some olives and some nachos and salsa to nibble before our main course. Salsa was really nice.
My wife and I had the cottage pie for main, but it's more of a stew with a mash potato topping. Tasty enough, but bit of a small portion for 18 Euros. Two sons went for a Brazilian feast - they enjoyed it, but again lots of bits on a plate, but could do with more substance. Side salads were provided, but I prefer some wholesome veg.
Drinks were OK, but a bottle of wine would set you back over 24 Euros, so we had beer!
This was our first night in Amsterdam and it has to be said that it is relatively expensive where ever you go, so maybe I'm being a bit harsh, focusing on the cost, but I expected to eat a good, hearty, reasonably priced meal and come out feeling full and I didn't!
