“Well thought concept, worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2010

Interesting and different experience in the affordable alternative for expensive hotels.
Worth a visit!

Well thought concepts and clever marketing. Mid-range pricing =screening out trouble-makers. Location is alright. Tick all Kotler's 4Ps boxes

I like the sense of humour of this hotel from its website, quotation on the doors and even the finish touch on the invoice "because you're not the Queen of England,
our rooms don't cost a fortune (if you are the Queen, you're welcome too)"

Love the massive comfy Bed with power rain shower in the middle of the room.
The bed is bigger than 2X2m. There is also a blind that block all the light for a long sleep. After the stay, I've got an email from them saying "If your own bed now feels a little small compared to the one in your citizenM room, we wish to offer our sincere apologies." haha

We enjoyed using Phillips moodpad from the blinds to the lights, shower and TV. Free Movies on-demand are excellent! We watched Up in The Air and It's Complicated there so they are very recent for DVDs.

Because it's in business area (WTC) There are not many restaurants around the hotel especially after 8pm or weekends (Albert Heijin to Go and restaurants around there are closed on weekends). Only Burger King at the Amsterdam Zuid station or some food e.g. Sushi, Salad at the hotel.

Would recommend to a friend who wants to stay for a few nights but they need to set the right expectation of this hotel. And the fact that it's not in the heart of Amsterdam. The 20 mins journey to the central station wasn't too bad. Plus you get to see other part of Amsterdam.

All in all enjoyable experience and I would love to see this kind of hotel in other cities.

Hotel was absolutely fantastic - clean, modern, friendly staff always happy to answer questions. Location was fine - a quick 10min tram ride from the city centre (2.60euro) and the tram stop was right outside. Would definitely stay here again. Free movies, free internet, free printing were a treat!

We stayed during the weekend in amsterdam, and although the hotel is not situated in the heart of the city , it was nice to escape the confusion at the end of day. Tram nr. 5 stops right next to the hotel , this area is also served by night buses, it doesn't take longer than 10/15 min to get to the city centre. The rooms are small but very comfortable an fashionable, a good night's sleep is guaranteed. The staff is friendly and the bar is very nice

The hotel is not in the city center but the location is very good. First is just 5 minutes walking from the Amsterdam Zuid train station, that have direct trains to the Schipol aiport (less than 10 minutes). So take around 20 minutes to arrive to the hotel from the airport. Second, there is a direct tram (number 5) from the hotel to the city center.
The hotel staff is very helpful and nice. The hotel amenities are amazing and with very good quality and design sofas and furniture. The hotel have free internet, free computers and free prints!!
They have a coffee area with snacks and drinks that is a little bit expensive but is good to have a service like that.
The rooms are something completly different of all hotels that I stayed. Not big rooms but the bed is confortable and big! The shower is... different and I think that the pictures on the hotel website are very accurate of the rooms and all the hotel.

Great hotel, Super trendy, Relaxed, Affordable.
I loved the rooms with the rainshower. Great beds and pillows. Highly isolated so no noise from neighbours. The rooms are rather small but super efficient.
The lobby and bar were excellent as well with the self service concept.
Free internet.
Great concept!!! It felt like being at home.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights in May, 2010. If you're coming from the airport, it's a five minute train trip followed by a five minute walk to get into the hotel. Make sure you take the right train, though.
The check-in process was easy and quick, and we were inside the room only a few minutes after walking in the door.
The room itself is very tiny, and there is not separate bathroom. Rather, it is integrated into the room. The sink is next to the bed, the shower in a tube near one wall, the toilet in a tube near the other wall. The large and comfortable bed sits beneath the large window, and there is a chair next to the bed. A flatscreen TV hangs above the bed. That's about it in terms of furnishings. Everything was clean and in good shape.
The room controls are accessed through a "mood pad" which lets you turn off and on the lights and the tv, opens and shuts the blinds, and controls the temperature. Well, I know it does the lights, the TV, and the blinds. The temperature conrols on the mood pad did not seem to affect the room much at all.

The room was neatly made up each day, and it was extremely quiet. There were no disturbances.

The only points to consider with this hotel are the following:

- it is not the hotel to go to with children. There is no space for an additional bed for them, and if they wake up early in your bed, they will have nowhere to go.

- It is not the hotel to go to with someone you don't intend to know well. You will be sharing the bed, you will watch each other shower, and despite the frosted glass, you will be aware of each others movements in the toilet.

The tram stops right outside the hotel and goes directly into the downtown. There is also a metro stop in the Station Zuid which runs right into the center of the city. Definitely consider purchasing a transportation pass (they are very cheap, somethink like 12 euro for three days) and they are sold at the Station Zuid.

In a city in which hotels are quite expensive, this is an excellent deal.

My husband and I stayed at the CitizenM-Amsterdam City for 2 nights in May 2010. Check-in was a breeze, we took advantage of the early check-in option (for 20 euro). We took the train one-stop from the airport (to the Zuid station) and walked the short distance to the hotel. The #5 and #24 trams which run through the museum district up to Central station stop nearby.

They have a convenient snack/drink bar which had everything from beer to sushi to fresh fruit. Also available is a full bar and full espresso.

The modern decor was throughout the lobby and into the rooms. The rooms are very small, but perfect for a couple with a reasonable amount of luggage. Everything is state-of-the-art, with 'mood' settings changing the light color, shade/blind configuration, and music.
