“Unique and very modern hotel”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

This was an excellent hotel. Would highly recommend. The room looks like it came out of a science fiction movie, and the rain shower was amazing. Staff was very helpful, and the food at the bar is really good. Good value for money. Perhaps the only downside is that it's not at the very centre of the city but the hotel is only about 10 minutes away and very easily accessible by tram. Seriously, the hotel is an experience in itself, you'll wanna do a little bit of sightseeing around your room before you head into the 'Dam!

Actually there are two Citizen-M hotels in Amsterdam, both are of the identical kind. One is at the Schipol airport in walking distance ( I stayed there in the summer of 2011 with more or less the same experience) and this time I stayed at the Citizen-M Amsterdam City. This review is now for the Citizen-M Amsterdam City.
Several colleagues and I booked this place due to its close proximity of the RAI congress and exhibition center, as we all attended a trade show, and were able to walk to the RAI through the park within 15 minutes from the hotel. The tramv stop in front of the hotel was another convincing factor, as we could go downtown (about 20 mins. ride) for evening entertainment.
Check-in is self service, if one is using a debit or Maestro card. For credit card a helpful attendent is available to help, as the machines provided do not accept any credit cards.
The rooms are quite small, similar to the size of a car garage, but all what you need for just overnight staying. The width of the rooms is similar to the king size bed, which is at the end of the room towards the window. Under the bed you'll find two drawers for your clothing, as there is no closet, just a rack to hang a few items. The shower is in the middle of a room as sort of a round glass closet. The water flow starts only when the doors are closed completely, which is a little difficult to avoid the first swall of cold water when you turn on the faucet. The toilet is also in the middle the room, and one can use another round glass closet tokeep your privacy if others are in the room. Wifi and in-room entertainment is free of charge.
The windows do not open, but there is air con in the rooms, with a temperature setting.
Breakfast and dinner are available downstairs in the hotel lobby at the bar and from a large counter. Food offerings are limited, but enough for a business breakfast or dinner for just a few days. The hotel lobby is equipped with furniture like a an assortment of several living rooms, so quite comfortable and cosy, if you'd like to spend some time, read a book or surf the internet. There are even a few terminals for your own free use, if you didn't bring your own laptop or tablet. I would not spent more than three or four days in this hotel, but definitely would come back for another short trip.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same.

If you are looking for a new and unconventional hotel experience, this is the place to stay! Surprise comes already at check-in time. It's fully self-service (check-out as well...). Next surprise is the room itself. Minimal dimensions (except for the bed), but a very clever and innovative approach to shower and toilet spaces: 2 glass columns, like the ones we see in sci-fi movies for teletransportation. Bed is square, fit within 2 walls, beside the window, and you are free to choose the orientation that most suits you. Then a very innovative environment control replacing conventional lighting and background music. A final word to the common relaxing areas, something between a library and your living room. As interesting to tell your friends about as the city itself...

If you are in for a modern interior design this is the right place for you. The lights, the electric curtains and the TV are controlled from a single remote that sets the color of the light in the shower and toilette. The remote also allows you to set an alarm that wakes you up in the morning by opening the curtains or the lights automatically.

The rooms are pretty small but the furniture is minimal so it takes the least of the available space. The things that I disliked is the lacking of a drawer so if you're accommodating for more than three days you don't have a special furniture piece for the clothing.

Also there is a privacy problem, even if there is a textile curtain that separates the room in two and the window capsule is matte you can see or hear your travel buddy in it's most intimate moments.

The hotel staff is really friendly, the checkin system is through a computer, do it yourself, but a hotel employee is always there for assistance.

I rated the location "Very Good" though is a little far from the center of the city but it takes a 15 journey with the 5 tram to get there. It was also convenient for us because it took only 5 minutes to walk from the Amsterdam Zuid train station to the hotel. Amsterdam Zuid station is the closest train station to Schipol Airport.

Overall it was a great experience, the free wifi and the imacs in the lobby were really appreciated I would definitely return and accomodate at CitizenM Amsterdam.

I was on Business visit to Germany, and thought of taking a couple of days leisure trip to Amsterdam.

I searched for good Hotel near Airport, and I found CitizenM Hotel (which is barely 10 mins from Airport) with good ratings given by travelers.

Its a very unique reception area they have, it is self checking system -

The only problem is they DO NOT Accept CASH Payment - So anyone making reservation on their website with card guarantee or going directly at the Hotel should be more cautious and should carry ANY Debit/Credit Card (International VALIDITY)

The transport connection is too good, there is tram stop just outside the Hotel, Metro and Train station is just 2 mins. walk.

The rooms are exclusive - Though its too small for even 2 people. But its unique.

Its worth trying this unique idea.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Garden

Very original. Cool, relaxed but efficient and no-nonsense. Very friendly people. Modern and artistic. Unique blend of business and socialising, privacy and being-among-others. On the doorstep of the train/metrostation from/to the airport and the rest of Amsterdam. In the business-heart of Amsterdam. Tram 5 takes 5 minutes to the city center.

Room Tip: all rooms are equal

Having great ideas to offer you a 4-stars hotel services differently, this hotel has a strategic location close to Schiphole's airport.
Not a complete breakfast, but high-quality material.
During our stay, their wifi-based room control systems were almost down, but the staff managed to make us happy by providing some other services (like complementary breakfast).

Room Tip: All the rooms look the same! The only difference is their view, which is not important to most of bu...
