“Funky place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

Stayed in Citizen M during a work trip. It was such a fun experience. The hotel is really funky - staff, room style, selection of food... You will meet so many interesting people just by sitting at the bar for a drink. Staff who work there has such passion for their job - they are helpful, friendly, and FUN to be around! That is not event the best part - the hotel is 5 min walk to the channel with many good places to choose for food and drinks. It is also great for your morning power walk!

Had a four day stop over in Amsterdam with my husband at the end of our holiday, we had stayed in some lovely hotels, BnB's in the UK, this was totaly different from anything we have been to before, love it, totaly 'waky' would highly recommend, the location is great, 10 min for the airport and 15 mins from Dam square on the 5 tram.
Breakfast was super we took it in turns to go and bring breakfast to the room each morning, hot Croissants, cheeses, fab coffee and juice great start to the day.
Only criticisum is there are not products in the room, only shower jell and soap, so make sure you have all yours with you. Would stay again.

I have selected the hotel based on a few criteria - I wanted something new and unusual, close to RAI, free Internet, free phone calls and maybe free movies.
I'd say that the hotel did not disappoint at all, maybe some small things, which did not let me give it 5.

Pros:
Location: 7 minutes walk to RAI through a very green and pretty park. Right next to Tram #5 to take you to downtown. Right next to Zuid train station - 7 minutes to Airport!! Hard to beat. There is a food store about 3 minutes away near the Zuid station.
Funky - it does look and feel unusual, but very cool. It can be a great place to go with your other half and have fun, not like us business people:(
Sleep - very comfortable - huge bad would fit 4 people. Window shades are automatic. Very quiet room - perfectly sound proof.
Everything is controlled by a remote control - room temperature, TV/Music, Alarm, Lighting - and really cool color and intensity adjustable lighting - asking for a romantic time together:)
Service - great ambassadors are cool guys and gals and are there to help with your every wish.
Check-in/out - a breeze
Food/drinks - 24-hour open bar and restaurant
Internet - free, but a bit sketchy - they need more bandwidth for sure. PCs downstairs help.
"Living area" - cool area to seat downstairs, even alone, and watch TV, enjoy quite music.
Free movies - one can select Penthouse "full-speed" stuff, but there are plenty of fresh movies, like the last Johnny English.
Shower and toilet - did not know if it's a pro or con, but they are cool "tubes" right in the middle of the room. The water pressure is great. If you are there with a shy partner it can be a problem though to see him/her taking shower. I see it as a pro, since it was again "cool".
Intimacy - it is a great place to be with someone - feeling of romantic is everywhere. They even have a poster by elevators of the windows/wall of the hotel with different couples and groups involved into funky stuff.

Cons - not too many:
Since I was a business visitor - the breakfast for 12 euro - too small and expensive; coffee americano for 5 Euro - outrageously expensive; wine or water in the bar is about 3x the normal price. I suggest buying water at the airport or at the train station.
I think the 150+ Euro hotel price was just a bit more than I wanted to spend.
No gym or sauna.
Small room with very limited business accommodations or even cloth hangers.

Overall, very much recommend to stay thereat least once. If you can bring your wife/gf it would be even better.

Room Tip: Both sides of the hotel are great and all rooms are the same

We stayed at CitizenM Amsterdam for 5 nights. Overall our stay was very pleasant.
Pros: Great design, great staff, very comfortable bed, free Wi-fi, free calls to anywhere in the world, cool remote that controls everything in the room, good sound isolation, deposit box.
Only some minor cons: travel to city center takes some time (by tram 20-30 minutes), minor inconveniences due to design (like maximum temperature in room 23 degress Celsius, water temperature minimum 38 degrees celsius, no wardrobe, small trash bin).
We definitely recommend this hotel.

Citizen M is Richard Branson type funky. The location is convenient for Schipol and a quick no 5 tram to the city centre. The staff are (mostly) cool and helpful. The bed is comfortable, the room quiet, nice view ... but you are advised not to share unless you don't mind shitting in public, altho' you will get used to the strange ablution arrangements. Breakfast is plastic, poor value except the coffee is good. Giant TV in all reception rooms is crass. Overall quite enjoyed it and good value, but wouldn't take my partner there.

Stayed for one Sat night last weekend fro 140 Euro. Check in was fine a member of staff on hand to help, all staff were extremely polite. We had a car, paid parking available right outside the door. Rooms were clean, large bed and quirky with the toilet and shower in pods - their is a curtain you could pull if you wanted more privacy. Cool lighting, free WiFi and International Calls.

Rooms are bijou, but there is a chair and small table. There is a small rail to hang clothes. Its the kind of room that is functional and provides a comfy place to sleep but not the type of room you would spend hours in (in my opinion) - but hey there is plenty to see in Amsterdam.

I went down to the lobby for a cuppa, staff again very polite and attentive and it is quite a nice space to sit in. It is also near the train/metro station.

It is a more unusual concept and I liked the shower pod idea etc but for me the room just did not have enough space, for this reason it's not for me - but you may love it!! It's certainly worth a try.

Pros: fantastic staff, just can't do enough; great vibe; free phone calls to anywhere in the world including mobiles, Eames furniture, no-nonsense service and amenities, great cocktails at fair prices, very comfortable bed
Cons: the touch screen controller in the room can be temperamental, make sure you share with someone who you don't mind watching you shower in the middle of the room in a glass cylinder (be warned - the toliet is also in a glass cylinder)
fairly small rooms
Would I stay again? I can't wait! London now open too
Don't be shy - get in that shower (but perhaps pass on the loo, pardon the pun)

Room Tip: garden view - it should be quiet
