Nice and handy to the city, clean but small cabins, great friendly service and very helpful, all that you need for a short stay in Amsterdam.

We have just got back from a 4 day stay in Amsterdam and loved the Friesland hostel, now Amaticia. Roy, who checked us in was friendly, helpful and happy to answer questions. The boat was clean and great to stay in. Plus, it's so close, even my travel buddy could have found her way home and she gets lost findng her bathroom at home...

Booked the Friesland for a couple of nights at a great price and found its location to be ideal. One thing to note was that we were looking for a boat named Friesland in a specific dock, and the actual name on the side of the boat is Amicitia, and was in a different dock. Not a huge issue but worth pointing out.

Boat is only a 10/15 minute walk from the train station and we arrived early and were able to check in straight away. Room was as small as we expected it to be, having read other reviews, with just two bunk beds, a sink and a small cupboard. Was clean enough and fine for the two nights that we were there. Only negative comment about the room was that it was located right underneath the wooden staircase that takes you up to the main level of the boat, so you might lose sleep if allocated this room! Toilets and showers were further along the corridor, and we found them to be quite smelly on our day of arrival, but alot fresher later on and fine the following day!

Room was stifling hot the first night as we turned the heater up in the room before going to bed, and as you can imagine, such a small space can heat up very quickly!

Breakfast was available each morning but we can't comment on that unfortunately as we never had any, and there was also a bar and seating area on the upper level. The red light district and alot of the bars/restaurants/cafes were only a short walk away, with most other things easily accessible. Amsterdam's a great city, but you can see everything worth seeing in a couple of days, and if staying there, we would definitely recommend the Friesland.

Myself and 3 friends went to Amsterdam for New years eve. The barge is 10mins away from main train station and close to trams and buses. Staying at the Friesland made our trip, Roy the captain was brilliant and so helpful. He even took us to one of the bars he goes to with his friends and we had a great time.Nice breakfast. New years eve, Roy put on a spread of food for all the guests. Even though the rooms are small, there perfect for just sleeping in. Recommend Friesland to anyone thats not planning on being in there room much. A nice dining area where you can take your own food and drink too. Very clean and very friendly and very very warm and cosey!

Me and my 48 year old mum, I'm 23, stayed here for 5 nights in may. Was such a great experience and we were very well looked after! Is 5 minute walk from central station where u get off at if u have caught the train from the airport. Is a scenic 10minute walk into the red light district and next to the nemo museum. The boat itself is very cozy. Is small and the rooms are a tight squeeze. Is bunk beds, u can't both stand up and get dressed at the same time, well u can but is a mission! The breakfast which is included was so good! Was a typical Danish breakfast with breads, crackers, cheeses, yummy meats, cereals and fresh juices. We would fill up on this and wouldn't need to eat till late afternoon. They have beer on board which u pay for in a honesty box and are €1! so very good value! U can sit on the roof of the boat in the afternoon with a heineken and watch the city ad has beautiful views!!!! Stay here!!!!!!
