Who is the elusive Ken? Communications great beforehand, but no-where to be seen on arrival! Do not disturb the next door neighbours (where apparently Ken lives!)
RED SHEETS, RED TOWELS, RED RUG!!!
Unexplained dirty mark on bathroom cupboard door (next to wc - eeugh!)! Previous 'guests' soap left on top of shower (eeugh!!). Teeny, tiny shower room - squeezing past the shower to get to the sink and wc - ok if you're a size 14 or less!
Back room with mosquito nets at both bedroom and bathroom windows - smell of Thai food coming from restaurant at the back - dirty, smelly teeny, tiny courtyard full of rubbish (no wonder you need a mosquito/fly net!)
TV didn't work!
Fridge with breakfast and bread basket - IN THE WARDROBE!!!
Drinks machine still full of previous guests drink pods!!!!
You have to pay cash up front for this room, and the young Thai boys collected this from us - very friendly and gave me a bill saying 'Pay' on it! "Just leave your door open and the keys on the table when you leave in two days time!" No thank you; we left after just one night and headed off on our next leg of the journey a day earlier - we could not wait to get out!
Where's the red light??? This isn't the red light area - it was really pretty - what a pity Ken never showed his face!!!

Room Tip: Pay the best price you can for a decent hotel when coming to Amsterdam; don't be fooled into thi...

We had a canal view room on the lst floor that turns out to be a walk-up on steep, curvy, narrow steps. We asked for a room with a bath...we got that, but we had to walk down the hall, passed another room, in a hall way that squeaked when you walked to use the bathroom... Unconfortable feeling with someone sleeping. Our friends had what was really a basement room called the family room. They had a small kitchen but replacements for the condos were stored in the cabinet and oven! They were cold and uncomfortable the whole stay. It was very hard to regulate the temperate in either room. Therefore, we ended up with head colds for the duration of our trip. In the canal view room there is no place to put your suitcase except on the floor,. My husband left his bag opened one day and he discovered that mice had been in his bag and had eaten his granola bars. He had to unpack, clean his bag and repack...not a good way to spend your time on vacation. This was our first stop in Europe and we had to have cash to pay for the rooms and that was inconvenient. The breakfast was a disappointment as compared to other B & B's that we have stayed in. We will not be staying in Amstel B & B again.

If we consider that average accomodations in Amsterdam are very small and expensive, our staying was not too bad. The room was big and on the groud floor. We had a kitchen and a small bathroom en-suite. It is perfect for a family. Everything is at walking distance, that is great for a city like Amsterdam. What we did not like was the breakfast (only the coffee was very good), which was too cheap, and the sitting room was too dusty. But bathroom and bedroom were nice and clean. We also had a computer with internet access included in the price but no printing facility. However, I think it was a little overpriced.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we had such a great weekend. We loved this guest house, we had the family suite which is huge! It is on the ground floor but can still see the canal. Such a perfect location, able to walk everywhere, we didn't use public transport the entire weekend. I would recommend staying here over a big chain hotel anyday!

Do not stay here. I booked the canal view suite for my husbands suprise trip to Amsterdam. When we arrived we were allocated a room, not a suite with no window. I was in tears, we paid £250 euro for what was basically a bed sit. I rang the door bell of the house next door where Ken lived, he would not come out and only spoke through the intercom to me. He was not interested. As we had paid we had no choice but to stay put. I complained to booking.com and Ken directly but neither were interested. I am sure the 2 room suite is beautiful and the location is great but if you are allocated the room we you will be getting totally ripped off as I have just been.

This is a really lovely place. It’s situated on the north side of the Amstel Canal and only a short walk from the main streets leading up to Dam Square. However, where the guest house is situated itself is very quiet. Also, Rembrandt Square is close by on the other side of the canal, with lots of bars and restaurants. There is also a flea market round the corner from the guest house – selling all sorts of things (think it isn’t open on Sundays but every other day it seemed to be).

We stayed in the Family Suite (on the ground floor), there is a canal view from this room but I’d imagine it’s a lot better on the 1st floor (hence it’s name the ‘canal view room’). The family suite has a nice size double bedroom cornered off by big sliding doors –which lead on to the large living area with flat screen TV. There is also a computer in the room with internet access (very useful). There is an extra (single) bed in here also, if needed.

The closet space is huge (lots of shelving and cupboards behind the main bedroom with hangers provided).

The kitchen is good (the oven can’t be used as it’s full of cleaning stuff – we didn’t need to use it anyway). There is a big fridge that has your yoghurts/cheese/ham/butter/little milk sachets/jam/fresh orange juice in for your breakfasts, replaced daily if you use them up.

There is a really good coffee machine (with lots of sachets of the coffee provided), a toaster, microwave and kettle (with an array of tea bags including breakfast tea, green tea and earl grey).

The toilet/shower room is attached to the kitchen, which isn’t really a problem but be careful stepping in and out of the bathroom as the floor gets soaked and there’s quite a big step/ledge into the bathroom. Shower was a bit dodgy (with a bit of a leak) but the water nice and hot every time we used it. Small and large towels are also provided.

Lots of mirrors around and two large dressing tables with lots of plug sockets makes getting ready to go out easy!

We didn’t find the neighbours noisy until Monday morning when they may have been getting children ready for school, but even then they weren’t very loud. Also, you don’t tend to see the other guests unless you have to pass in your corridor. We didn’t get to meet Ken but his friend who showed us round and cleaned our room was nice.

I’d definitely stay here again, good price for a great place and close to everything you need.

The location is very close to the main attractions of the city. However, the location is very quiet with no traffic. Staff is helpful and flexible. We traveled with four adults and a baby and had stayed in the deluxe and family rooms. Both of the rooms are large, beautifully decorated and well cleaned. Both rooms have nice view, especially the deluxe room in second floor has a nice view to the canal with boats. Note, the third room does not have windows to the canal. We enjoyed helping ourselves for making breakfast: plenty of bread , ham, cheese, and fruits was offered for this purpose. There was also nice espresso machine for making coffee.

This is probably the best quest house I have ever stayed. Still, you should note that this is a quest house - not a hotel.
