It is a square where all actions begin. The 3 major museums, the Rijkmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk museum are all located within 3 minutes walk. Besides the iconic red letters, 'I amsterdam', there are also a restaurant, museum gift shop and an ice rink. This is the place you want to hang around in Amsterdam.

Definitely a must-do for travellers in Amesterdam. The 'iamsterdam' is very large and easy to climb. Nothing else but those letters. Worth a 30 min-1hr visit!

This is the first place to go when you begin to visit Amsterdam and Holland art History because you have the Rijks and the Van Gogh Museum, two of the majors art museum of the city.
The place has its own attractions, the famous letter from I am sterdam.
Perfect place when it is sunny! Definitely a must see!

Beautiful museums all around. We went to the Stedelijk first then the Rijks and finally the Van Gogh. Don't try to do them all in one day. But do get the Museumkaart if you plan on going to several. The price will save you money if you plan on doing several museums. But far more than that there is no wait at the museums with the longest lines, such as the Van Gogh, the Rijks, and Anne Frank House. Do the Kaart first thing. The Museumplein is a great experience in itself. We loved the ice rink!!! And because the tram line is right there, it's so very easily accessible to all of Amsterdam.

A picture next to the "I Amsterdam" sign is a must when you're visiting Amsterdam.
The area is very nice and it has a nice atmosphere with everyone having fun getting pictures next to / or on the sign!
When we were there there was also an ice rink nearby for Christmas that was full of people and seemed to be good fun!
Best to Arrive early if you want to get a picture alone as it gets very busy very early in the day!
