“Perfect!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2014

Just what I was looking for as a solo traveller - stayed in the single room at the front, breakfast was good, reasonable rates & good location. Near to the best music venues and trams, buses etc - coffeeshop round the corner. A little noisy from fellow guests in the early hours but hey. . .you're in Amsterdam!

This hotel is definitely what it promises - a very cool rock-style interior makes this place quite unique.
Pros:
- The breakfast is quite nice and well worth the 6.50 € - and serving times are flexible!
- The rooms are clean, and creatively decorated, true to the rock-theme.
- staff is friendly and very helpful
- Amazing liquorice free for consumption in the reception (it's the little things that count)

Cons:
- "The walls on this hotel are paper-thin" - In your bed, you can clearly hear any sound coming from the hallway (and vice-versa). But you survive, if people are generally well behaved, which they were.
- The strong emphasis on music in the hotel decor, makes it disappointing to discover that the restaurant/bar soundtrack is constantly based on the same boring pop radio station. I don't mind pop, but one would at least expect a very conscious and personal choice of musical backdrop in such a place - e.g. playlists chosen personally by the probably music-savvy hotel staff.
- It's a shame that the well-equipped bar is closing so late - this might be solved by better soundproofing, so the 1st floor rooms are not bothered by a late running bar.

All in all a very comfy and extraordinary hotel experience - definitely recommendable! The cons above are just suggestions for improvement of an already nice experience.

Was staying at the backstage hotel for 3 nights while on a stag do in Amsterdam, we stayed in the Jaegermeister room which was quite big apart from the toilet but the mini fridge and 60" tv made up for it :), it was very tidy and clean, the bar and wood trim is all signed by visiting bands, a few of which some of us recognised, it really is a great place to stay and would so again

I hit up the 1-room, which is tiny in a perfect way. A minimalist's dream. The entire vibe of this hotel is hardcore rock star magic, and is quintessentially Dutch, ie STEEP staircases. For 35 euros, the room was an epic find.

I came for Skrillex. They had an internet-ready computer, which they let me use for free, to print out my tickets. They called a cab for me no problem. I rocked all night, collapsed at 5AM, checked out two hours late and all the guy at the front had to say was, "How was the show?!" So awesome.

Room Tip: Keep in mind that a single (1 bed) is exactly that, a double bed, it's like a minimalist barrack...

We had such a lovely time in Amsterdam. The staff at the hotel were incredibly generous and friendly. The room was comfortable, the shower hot, and the breakfast very delicious. There's a bar downstairs if you want to spend a night in, and the hotel is within walking distance to a cute little night-life and restaurant area, and a very short tram ride into town or up towards the brewery and the museums.

This place is basically great. The staff are really friendly and helpful, we arrived really early, but they found us an available room.

Location is really good, not too far from anything, but not right near any late night clubs either.

Only slight negatives were very steep and small stairs (not necessarily a problem for everyone but my boyfriend has size 11 feet and is clumsy!)

Would definitely recommend, also if you do visit go to de zotte nearby, it's a great beer bar.

Stayed for 5 nights. First night was a disastrous start. Feral people next door were having a full on party with 4 outsiders from mid night till 2am, then they went out and came back at 4am to continue the party . The hotel night staff did what they could, they booted out the 4 outsiders and told them to lower the sound. The ferals only marginally cut the sound level and finally at 6 am it stopped. The hotel at the time did what they could and the hotel is located very near the pubs, clubs, etc. However, the hotel has I pod docks in every room, bad move, some people abuse this, as its too easy an access. Also, the hotel has a no guest policy, however they could have signs up enforcing this. Luckily, they checked out that morning.
The hotel is well located, the rooms are ok, the bed was comfortable, there was enough storage. The shared bathroom was always clean and well located to the room.
The staff are all excellent and will help you as much as possible. They moved us to another quieter room after our episode.
The traffic noise is there, but its not too bad.
All in all, it has a great theme, friendly staff, well located, good value but your sleep quality could be compromised.
