On arriving late Friday night we were told we were staying in a different hotel as there was no room to stay here, even though we had booked and confirmed a room 4weeks previous. The place where we were to stay is apparently a sister hotel but it didn't state this when we were booking it. We were very frustrated as the room we were put in was small dirty and smelled. The Asian man on the desk didn't care and basically did nothing to help improve out stay. As it was nearly 1am we had other choice but to stay for the night. At half 7 the next morning we were woken by an Asian woman who asked us about the issue we had staying she then told us to leave, pushed her way into the room and tried to take our belonging, she physically pushed us and try to steal. We had to call the police as we were frightened and unsafe. This sounds like a made up story and me and my friends are still shocked it happened. This place needs to be shut down it is disgraceful. Luckyily we walked 10mins up the street to the Apollo museum hotel where the staff are very nice and helpful and the hotel is lovely.

In fact the reviews mentioned below are TRUE. Can't they read those reviews and try and improve their standards. Lobby needs a lick of paint, fag ends need clearing up from the front entrance. Yucky smell from shower trap needs addressing. Two of their staff both of a Chinese origin need staff training, how to welcome guests, assist their needs, instead of peeing their eyes on the computer! Only good thing they have is the powerful shower!

This hotel has the exact price/quality standards.

I stayed there with 3 friends. We payed 100eur for 6 nights. I thought worse for 16eur/night, but I think it was great for such price. I have read the other negative comments - what do you expect for 16eur/night?

Tram stop, bar and the supermarket is just around the corner. The city was ~15min walk and to the Central Station ~25min. We had a room with a great view, so we could see the Amsterdam every morning when we woke up.

The Latvian receptionist was cool and very helpful. Other staff was friendly as well. The room was a bit dirty when we arrived, but it's ok - at least we didn't have to share a bathroom with anyone.

Overall a positive experience!

Although the shower was amazing, the room was small, very far from the centre, the only window led out into the corridor and was therefore noisy, extremely hot and stuffy and our room was not cleaned.

Room Tip: Don't believe the photos the room is tiny and the hotel is really far away

I went to Amsterdam for 4 nights with 2 friends. We booked online to stay at the "hotel" and it worked out that we were paying 72E each for all 4 nights. It is the first time we had travelled together and if I am honest we didn't do enough research at all!!

When we arrived at the hotel (it is more like a shabby hostel) we are so tired after travelling 10 hours on the coach from London to get there. We went to check in, to be told that we needed to pay extra because of some kind of tax however, we were under the impression that we had paid all of that online. I showed the male receptionist my booking confirmation etc and he said that it was all wrong and we needed to pay these extra euros. To save any more fuss we agreed, paid and got given our room number and key card.

The room we were staying in was actually in a completely different building so we had to the lug all of our bags down the road to where we would be staying. When we got to the building, it looked rough, smelt damp and wasn't exactly very welcoming. As we were staying for 4 nights, and being all female, we had a fair amount of luggage and to find that there is no lift and our room was number 205 we were not very impressed. After struggling with our bags up the stairs we got to our room... It was tiny! We had a balcony - which would have been quite nice if the view wasn't an overgrown, ugly courtyard, and if the door wasn't open when we arrived and if there was actually a way to lock it!! Not only did we have a door we couldn't close securely, the curtains didn't go all around the windows which would allow people to see inside, see all of our things and worst of all see us getting changed etc. The shower didn't have a door or curtain (although it was powerful and there was plenty of hot water). There was no way of getting a safety deposit box and there was a tiny cupboard which we could use as a wardrobe.

We then had to go all the way back down the road to the main reception to complain about the room and asked to have our room swapped with another where there would be no balcony and with curtains that go all the way over the windows - not much to ask! They changed our room to another and we settled in that one. The room again was small but we weren't there that much so it was just a place to sleep.

The room was cleaned every day and they offered us breakfast however, we found food elsewhere.

All in all... We stayed in the hotel as little as possible.

My advice to anyone going to Amsterdam would be DON'T STAY THERE! And do as much research as you can before you go.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here.

would be happier if could mark it zero stars. Arrived at Vivaldi after a long days walking, from the front we instantly knew this would be terrible. The receptionist was strange and rude. we got out room card and went to our room (which was another horrible building down the street) the carpets were horrific on entrance. We made it to our room and the smell of mould would knock you out. You could hear the people in the next rooms talking. The room was freezing and consisted of stained walls/carpets and a sofa bed which when you sat down it touched the floor. We immediately agreed we could not stay there, we booked another hotel on our phones (Easyjet hotel in van osterstraat). we went back to the reception and explained the situation, the receptionist tried to tell me that he could not refund any money (179E for 3 nights) eventually he refunded one night. the easy jet was 120 and was fabulous. dont make the mistake of bookind the dingy, dirty vivaldi.
