This hotel was booked for us by our travel agent and we were told that breakfast was included. We were informed by the hotel when we arrived that in fact it was not included in our reservation. This was the only downside to our stay. We had breakfast at the hotel 2 mornings and it was good but it cost 10 euros each and so we ended up buying some fruit and croissants from the local market instead and were able to save some money.

The hotel is nice. Our room was very clean. The front desk staff was helpful but only depending on who you talked to at the front desk. Some of them were quite rude and abrupt but we figured out who would be the most helpful. They helped out with information regarding public transportation and made reservations for us at a restaurant and booked a taxi for us to the airport.

During our 9 night stay there were many tour groups there but we never heard any noise from these groups. There was some noise from the trams running in front of the hotel but nothing that some ear plugs couldn't drown out.

It does take about 20 minutes to get to the Centraal station but that wasn't a problem for us. We mostly ate supper at the surrounding restaurants.

Overall this hotel was very good and I would recommend it to anyone.

We booked this hotel through a Key Tour from Boston to Amsterdam. The hotel looks like a Soviet era hotel from the outside and gets its name from the blue exterior. The rooms are ok, but the service was awful. There were four couples in all, and every day something was not done in EVERY room. Frequently, we had no towels, or tissue, or toilet paper. Sometimes you knew staff had been in the room, but they only addressed one or two things, like making the bed. Sometimes, the room was never serviced at all! One evening at 8 pm when we had no towels we went to the front desk to find out they were waiting for the linen service so they only had one towel to give us. This is completely unacceptable for a brand name hotel. Our drink glasses were never replaced in five days.

The front desk staff was nearly as indifferent. Since there were 8 of us, we made reservations each evening for dinner. We asked the staff to do them, and received a "We will try..." To their credit, they did make them, but we had little confidence when we showed up for a reservation that it had been made.

As to location, this hotel is in a suburb of Amsterdam. Yes, it only took a half hour to get into town at the Dam, but the trams only run every fifteen minutes, so if you missed one you could easily spend almost an hour getting there. The staff handed you a map of the buses and trams for the suburbs because the hotel is not on any tourist map because of its distance from the center. There are few restaurants in the area. Heram, a Turkish restaurant across the street, was very good but with no alcohol. If you want to eat there, you should make a reservation as it is very busy.

Other restaurants in town I can recommend are Cinema Paradiso on Westerstraat and Moeder's on Rozengracht. Cinema Paradiso features Italian food and it located in a restored old cinema, thus its name. Moeder's (Mother's) is traditional Dutch food in a charming room filled ceiling to floor with photos of mothers. Food and service was excellent in both places.

Bottom line? I would not stay here again. Final word of caution -- watch out for bicycles both in this neighborhood and in town.

Room Tip: Room 132 is larger. My guess is if you ask for a room with a tub (most have just showers and are ti...

The building and the room we had both seemed a bit jaded and in need of a refurb, but I have to say it was spotlessly clean and our double room was a good size with a nice en suite with a great shower over the bath. Very soft bed. It was a bit noisy from the trams which ran right by the hotel at the front, although they didn't run too late. (2 euros 80 each way for the 20 minute trip into the city centre) Probably quieter if you get a room at the back of the hotel. Staff were friendly and polite and spoke excellent English. Fantastic buffet breakfast- you won't go hungry! Reasonable bar prices.

Room Tip: Probably quieter at the back of the hotel.

Nice hotel, with two tram stops in front of the hotel.
The frontdeskt has a very good service.
The room is large, clean and the beds are nice.

With the tram at the front of the hotel you can go to the main tourist attractions in 30 minutes.

Something very important, if you will go to Amsterdam by car, park your car at the hotel underground parking and take the tram.

Don't think about going by car.... it's a nightmare!!! the bikes, the trams, the buses and the people makes impossible to move around within it. Even also parking... it's innexistent...

Take the tram, it's clean, safe and nice... :)

Have just returned from here, staying with my mother. Although out of town, the tram journey in and out is easy and getting to the airport was fine (albeit the bus drivers are fond of their brakes!). The hotel itself is really unattractive from the outside but inside was perfectly fine, we had one incident where the room wasn't hoovered but the next day it was spotless. The staff were really helpful with all our questions and random requests for things. The hotel restaurant is expensive but we ate at the restaurant which is on the canal and that was just fine. Having the supermarket close was great too. Ask for a room overlooking the canal.

we arrive there 19 april 2013,

quite a friendly staff at the reception, altough missed a little promise (she said the room will be ready in approx 1 hour) when we came back in 1 hour. it took total 2 hours for the room to be ready.
anyway everything else was great,
nice shopping district just around the corner.
there is this small yellow shop/tent selling french fries with dips and fried chicken, they were very very delicious.

room was very small, but clean.

We stayed the weekend here and were a little upset about not being in the centre at first, but after one quiet night there were actually quite happy at not being in the centre of things. The staff were friendly, the room was clean and breakfast is generous. The distance into town not so far after all, as the trams run every quarter of an hour or so, Number 7 taking you to the Museum Quarter and 14 to Dam and shopping.Tickets can be bought at the back of the tram, 2.80 for a one way ticket valid for an hour and 7.50 for the 24 hour ticket. Parking in the hotel is a bit pricey, though you can take your chances with outside the hotel (free Friday night from 7 pm till 9 am. There is also a small market on Saturday morning and a supermarket nearby for a whole cheese or some of those wonderful crispy butter biscuits. Would stay here again.
