“First time in Amsterdam”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

This was my first time to Amsterdam. I traveled with my wife and daughter. I booked at Novotel Amsterdam City. The hotel is located in the RAI area; 15 min drive from the airport, and 25 min drive from down town. A very quiet location. The staff were very warm and helpful. The hotel enjoys a very nice and friendly design yet simple. The room, though not spacious, but very clean and comfortable. We all enjoyed our stay in the hotel, and will definitely come back again when we visit Amsterdam the next time.

Room Tip: Rooms are not spacious.

I stayed at the Novotel Amsterdam City Hotel in July. This was a business trip to attend a conference at the nearby RAI.

Location:
Out skirts of the Amsterdam city centre. The local train station is within 3 minutes walking distance. The RAI is about 7 minutes. A taxi to the city centre (the main train station) is about 10 minutes and costs between €10 to €15. A taxi to or from the airport is about €25 to €30.

Hotel:
Reasonably stylish lobby area offering a coffee shop, restaurant, free use of computers and printers. Staff are very efficient, friendly and helpful. Wish more hotel staff were like this.

Bedroom:
Mid size room. It was clean and offered the basic amenities. Bed was comfortable, offered tea making facilities and it had the standard plastic bathroom that Accor hotels always have. It doesn’t offer any wow but it is perfectly acceptable.

Restaurant:
I ate at teh resturant one evening for dinner. It offers a mixed european and asian fusion menue. Not overly impressed with the food. The steak was not particularly appetizing. Next time I would choose to eat out. Breakfast offred a good range of breads and cereal. Offered yogurt and a selection of hot foods including fresh fried eggs cooked to order. Quite happy with breakfast.

Cost:
It cost me about €100 a night plus breakfast. I was satisfied. I had free in room wifi and I had no issues at all with the hotel. This hotel is well suited to business travellers however if you are in Amsterdam on holiday you may want to be closer to the city centre. Staff make the effort to make your stay comfortable.

Perspective:
I have been a frequent business traveller for many years. I have had the pleasure to stay at the worlds leading 5 star hotels and also at budget hotels. My opinions are based on my personal experiences.

Most of Amsterdam hotel rooms are small but this one was a good size and clean. Bath/shower combination, refrigerator, air conditioning, a queen size bed with a sofa bed accommodates 3 people in one room. Modern lobby with bar, all the stuff were friendly and speaks good English.
It is located in financial district, a bus is available to and from down town for 20mins ride. Private parking with fee aprox. 22 euro for a day but just outside of this small private hotel parking lot, there is public parking lot available, free between 7pm to 9am. If you are looking for action then this is not the right one. No convenient store close by, you need a car to get to Albert Heine??? grocery store.

The hotel was very good. Even if the hotell where outside the city center it was easy to reach the city center by tram next to the hotel. We did bring our car with us and it was a big parking (not free) outside the hotel wich was very good. The breakfast was super a very big buffè. They even made fresh pancakes on request. The room was very good too. very fresh and good standard. If we´ll visit Amsterdam again we will stay at the same hotel.

Just got back from family trip to Amsterdam/Paris trip.

Clean and comfortable rooms. Good value on edge of city. A bit of trek to city centre so best if you don't want to be too close to city centre.

Some restaurants past train station 15 min walk.

Play area downstairs for children but in need of some updates with broken controls for video games.

Breakfast buffet good deal if included in price. Freshly made eggs. We like Accor hotels and this was a better one
