“Comfortable but isolated”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2013 via mobile

It is a huge hotel, near a subway/train station/ tram end that can take you anywhere, but there is no restaurant or anything worth walking in the vicinity. It is a travelling tour groups favorite. The breakfast buffet is quite good, the gym too. The restaurant has few options for dinner though.

This is a typical business hotel and no frills. Conveniently located, in that, mid way between the airport and the city centre, Very close to the tram station and close to the RAI convention center, Wifi is free and fantastic Mc computers in the lobby that guests can use!!

The lobby though big has limited seating for a huge hotel like this. No service in the lobby. Hotel staff are not too courteous and just go around doing a job. I was told I could have a late check by he staff at the front office out and by the time I came to the counter another executive suggested I pay extra. So in a way felt poor coordination between staff. I did not pay the extra finally. The business center is not manned and no clear directions on who does what.

I was disturbed a couple of times despite having a please do not disturb card placed outside. The rooms are small to my liking and not many choices with regards to restaurants and service can get very slow during conferences. Room service too can be a bit slow. Food at the restaurants is good but they can be out of choices, in my case they were out of sushi/sashimi.

In short nothing great to talk home about

This is definitely a recommended hotel if you have a meeting at the RAI since you could walk to the center in 5 minutes. if not, I guess there are better options and choices.

Room Tip: Amsterdam is beautiful and any room on the higher floors give you a great view of the canals and sur...

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us and other travelers about your recent stay at Novotel Amsterdam City.

I am sorry to read that you feel that limited seating was available in our lobby and that you regret no service was provided here. Please allow me to clarify the different F&B outlets we offer in our hotel of which we hope it serves the needs of each of our guests as much as possible.

At our restaurant we serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bar is opened daily after breakfast closes and our Coffee Corner in the lobby is opened during peak hours only. It is in fact correct that no table service is available at the Coffee Corner in the lobby, however I would like to invite you to take a drink in our bar instead.

In regards to the disturbance despite the DND sign and the slow service of our room service department, I would to thank you for providing this feedback to me. It is not up to the high service standards I am for, therefore trust me when I tell you I will take the appropriate measures to address the problem and preventing of happing again.
Sashimi and sushi is a daily fresh product and could be sold out during the night when high numbers are ordered at once. This is unavoidable I am afraid.

Overall I would like to thank you for sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future.

With kind regards,

Remco Groenhuyzen

We stayed here for 2 nights over the Queens Day holiday, when booking our holiday we had no idea about this event but soon found out as accommodation prices were quite high. We arrived into Amsterdam Centraal and we were a bit confused as to where to go, eventually we found some very helpful information people who told us where we had had to go, the metro lines are in a different place to the main station. We bought a 48 hour ticket which was only €12 per person and we certainly got our monies worth! The hotel is a short walk from the Rai station (line 51 by train) or the tram line 4 is right near by as well. Check in was quick and easy, we were able to check in a couple of hours before check in time which was great but not expected. The room was quite large and clean. Free wifi in the rooms was also a bonus, it was quick and worked perfectly for Skype video calls. There is a large park across the road from the hotel which is quite nice for a walk, right down the end of the park is a nice windmill. If you head towards the Rai station and walk a little further there is a Dirk supermarket is you are looking for grocery needs. I would stay here again even though it is out of the city centre the public transport system is quick and easy to understand.

Not too far from the Airport and close to the tram and train station. Tram gets you in to town quite quickly and pretty cheap. Staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. Bar and restaurant also great. Buffet breakfast excellent!

An extremely well run hotel in a quiet part of the city, 20 minutes by tram from the centre and ideally situated for the airport. The public rooms are very well equipped, excellent breakfast with all tastes catered for. Bedrooms are the standard Novotel style, spotlessly clean and with the much appreciated tea and coffee making facilities. The biggest 'plus' however, has to be the staff; without exception they were so pleasant and helpful, we really could not fault anything at all and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone. Book it now!

Stayed here during Queens day.
Location good, overall a good hotel, the biggest problem I had was the parking. €22.50 a day. That's insane. For guests they should have free parking. So if u come by car don't go here.

The experience at the Novotel in Amsterdam can be a mixed bag, so choose with care. As a Novotel, it has all the characteristics of a the chain – fairly efficient, but rather drab, not very pleasantly gray; standard rooms – if someone is used to a better category or chain, then these hotels are a downer.

As for location, this is well outside the touristy side of Amsterdam, but fairly near the new business district. The airport is about 20 minutes away by car. It takes a while in a cab or a tram to get the Centrum, and you can’t really just walk to the office area either. Tram number 4 starts just a few metres from the hotel, and ends in Cental Station, so very convenient. But it is in front of a large park, Amsterdam Bos, and a beautiful wide street. Amsterdam of course is fairly easy to navigate, but factor in your requirements before selecting this hotel.

I stayed in a superior room, and it was okay, but absolutely no frills. Not only were there no basic such as slippers, toiletries, an iron etc, the aesthetics of the room were not welcoming. Rather depressing if one had to stay in the room. There was a tea maker, a TV with basic channels, a small desk.

The bathroom is really poorly designed. Small, the bath is really high to get into and there is actually a note on in the bathroom that requests you to “shower in the bathtub”. Till now it had never struck me take it outside, but in this bathroom, I discovered it was actually easy to do so! A big plus was free wi-fi in the hotel, which compensated.

The common areas are much better. It is a big hotel – 610 rooms, plus a convention centre. So expect occasional noisy days, but then the reception area is quite nice - spacious, well lit, nice seating arrangements, a lovely coffee kiosk. The colour scheme is also such a welcome relief from the room / corridor drabness – white with touches of bright green with dark shades of sofas. There are some nice design touches, in the lobby area, and the washroom labels outside the restaurant.

The coffee shop/ all day diner is quite good. The buffet has a decent range, actually extensive, choices, and lots of spacious seating area. There is an east Asian restaurant too, which I didn’t try though.

The check in is fast, though of course there is no one to help you. Somehow as Indians, we expect it! Didn’t check out the gym, and there is no pool. There is parking, but fairly expensive. Staff ok, obviously some better than others! There is a souvenier shop, which can help you with emergency retail.

Room Tip: Opt for the Executive Room, it gets you slippers and toiletries! Not to speak of a view, especially...

Dear Sir,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us and other travelers about your recent experience at the Novotel Amsterdam City.

Your detailed review will help other travelers to determine where to stay in our lovely city and it also gives us the opportunity to complement the information where possible.

Novotel is a standardized product with efficient hotel rooms for as well as the business traveller as the leisure guest. The location of the hotel is not only nearby the business district of the Zuidas and the RAI Convention Centre (7 min. by foot) but also close to direct public transportation means into the city centre (3 min. by foot). The airport is only two stops by train (10 min).

At Novotel Amsterdam City we offer different types of rooms; standard, executive and executive deluxe rooms. The amenities provided in each room category depends on the type booked. As you stayed in a standard room no slippers, bathrobe or iron and iron board are commonly provided. It is available, sometimes with a small surcharge, upon request. When you prefer these items to be in your room, it might be interesting to book an executive room instead.

I am sorry to read that you have mixed feelings about the different approach of our employees. If this has lead to discomfort I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. We strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer. We therefore appreciate you shared your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future.
