Owner description: Our Hop on Hop off bus and boat offers you a wonderful opportunity to discover Amsterdam. The buses and boats bring you to the most famous sights in our city: the Red Light District, the old port, the flea market, the river Amstel, the Magere Brug and the museums. You can get on or off as often as you like at the 21 centrally located stops throughout the city (Damrak, Rembrandt Square, Heineken Experience, Museum Square, Leidse Square, Anne Frank House). Tip: Download our City sightseeing App for real time view of our buses and boats. And location of our stops!

We had enjoyed the hop on hop off tours in other cities and thought it would give us a good overview of Amsterdam, but found that it was not worth the money, The stops were quite frequent, so it kept cutting off the narration on the bus, plus by the time we figured out what sight the narrator was talking about, we were well past it. I would invest in a good guide book and a tram pass, the city center is so small that it is relatively easy to get around on your own.

We bought a 24 hour ticket for this service and although the information delivered over the speakers was a little bland (and at times very commercial) it was Avery pleasant way to get from A to B. The boats are clean and the staff very friendly and willing to answer questions - one of the captains even took to the mic to narrate her own, much more exciting tour! If your looking for an interesting and enlightening tour this is probably not the company to go to (unless you're lucky enough to get the aforementioned captain of course) but it's worth the extra ?10 or so more than the set 1 hour tours if you're staying for a couple of days and want to take your time getting around, admiring the canalside houses and putting your feet up a bit! You do need to plan your routes carefully though as the boats are not very regular, so keep the timetable handy and be prepared to stop for a beer somewhere while you wait!

As a family, we travel on school vacations. We always take the hop-on-hop-off buses to get the "lay of the land." We find it the best way to get familiar with the sites and then go out on our own. The tapes are usually very informative. Well, the one we took about a week ago in Amsterdam was a "fail" in every regard. First of all, there were no signs where the bus was supposed to stop; so you did not know where to stand. Considering it was cool weather with some rain and considering that the bus ran every 45 minutes, we really did not want to miss our pick-up. We got on the bus after waiting a full 45 minutes. We waived the bus down when we saw it coming because there was no sign. The bus driver and the woman who worked on the bus were laughing at us when we got in. They said "no one ever knows where to wait so we just look for people waiving their arms like crazy." There were no seats left for us when we got on the bus, so we stood. That means we could not hear the commentary. A few stops later, we stopped for ten minutes at a diamond factory. Some people got off and many got on. People were all standing and the bus was filled to the brim. There was no organization. You didn't know what stop you were at. It was disorganized. It was a waste of money. We didn't learn anything. We couldn't see out the window. For the first time ever, the hop on bus was truly an awful waste of money!

We always do a city tour to find our bearings or remind us of them and I've never had a bad experience until now.

So, there's a woman 'guide' for guide read in your face shouty sales woman who you can't get rid of and won't shut up. She yelled over the recorded guide about every little attraction they may get some sort of commission for.

When there was a few seconds break from the yelling woman you got a patronising man telling you about the city. I can't tell you anything about the city because once he got going she started shouting. One teensy thing I heard from him was that the Heineken Brewery has always been family owned and, is now, being run by a woman (patronising style A. Woman.) who knew? Women can run businesses?!

There's really not much to see, it's a great city and all way better on foot where you can smell and hear it all happening.

Second part of the ticket was the boat. Sorry, it's rubbish. Too hot and really dull.

If you want to do the canal - and you should - not with this company.

If I could give no stars I would! A waste of time and money.

Usually a hop on hop off bus tour is a great way to see a city's sites whilst being entertained and informed. Not this one. A pre-recorded guide soundtrack played thinly veiled advertisements for pay in attractions (discounted if tickets purchased on the bus) with very little by way of interesting factoids about the city. The route itself seemed designed to take in the pay in attractions rather than the historical sites of the city. The tour guide was there purely to announce the stops although did ask if we had any questions. We couldn't help but feel that they might have been more engaging if they worked for tips. To top it all off the windows fogged up and we could hardly see a thing. This tour had zero personality, it seemed entirely commercialised and its capital offence was that it was boring!!! We got off at the second to last stop after not bothering with any of the others and didn't bother getting back on. Would not recommend.
