“A perfect city retreat”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

A very enjoyable stay, and something a bit different from the mundane.

We originally booked to stay in the green room but were upgraded to the blue room upon arrival, they seemed similar on the website but the blue room is closer to the downstairs shower.

The rooms were very peaceful, with tea and a nice wood floor, the bed was very comfortable. The furnishing was rustic and had character. Some people may have found it a tad chilly (as it was below freezing outside!) but it was absolutely perfect for us.

The bathroom was very clean and the showerhead emulated a rain shower and was sufficiently powerful and hot.

The biggest positives were undoubtedly the hosts, Jan and Novella were professional and friendly which can be a difficult balance to strike, giving the perfect balance of privacy and conversation. Eddie took exceptional care of us on the first and second mornings of our trip and cooked us a nice breakfast while making us laugh with his stories. Novella took care of us on our last day and gave us some home made cake!

They have two lovely dogs which as a dog loving couple was an unexpected bonus

The only downside to the stay was the Wifi signal not being all that great in our room, but this was no problem for us as we didn't need it. It may be a little bit too personal if you are a couple who would prefer an anonymous hotel but again, this was an added bonus for us as it was nice to have conversation.

Thanks for a relaxing stay!

We booked this smoothly. Arrived and were shown the self-contained flatlet which was as expected - clean and cosy. Very central location. First night interrupted by revelling visitors staying above us, not so bad as they left the next day and the rest of the week was peaceful.

Disappointments were: wifi connection pretty poor - you have to stand in a corner to get the signal from the main B&B property down the street. Better to not have advertised it with wifi as it just disappointed. Also the mice issue - we bought some bread, sealed in a plastic bag, and by morn it had been nibbled through (had we been informed of the mouse problem we'd have put it in the fridge). WHen I updated the owners the reaction was hysterical more than apologetic which irritated. Each night after we were woken by the pitter-patter of tiny rodent feet (though we left no snacks out after the first night). No real apology or reduction offered for the mouse problem. So the place has great potential but we didn't sleep well for reasons mentioned.

I would probably recommend the B&B itself (which looked good) but not this accommodation.

Dear Guest your booking was at the beginning of January.
Since then we have strengthened the wi fi and we never again' had problems with mice
I'm sorry for my reaction Hysterical, since in any case the problem was not due to carelessness or dirt, but a real problem that all apartments and restaurants and hotels have in Amsterdam.
We have a special contract with Rentokil that specializes in these problems it has solved the problems.
We had no more problems with mice. I Hope that is clear for my future Guest !!!
sincerely

Great job Eddie and Novella. You made us so welcome and helped us enjoy our time in Amsterdam. We had the top floor apartment in the building across the street from the main B&B. It was such an Amsterdam experience we were delighted. As skiers we rated the staircase to the third storey apartment double black diamond so we were thankful that Eddie took care of getting our luggage up and down those stairs. The room was fine with a bathroom and small kitchen and eating area. I will say that the beds could have been more comfortable. We saw another Tripadvisor review that mentioned a mouse and we also had such a visitor one night. If that's gonna upset you beware, we didn't care much at all. We were comfortable, warm (it was January) and the location is excellent for exploring the canal area of Amsterdam and is handy for the Centraal Station. And the building is iconic Amsterdam. All together a great experience.

Room Tip: The apartments are great for "self-catering" and privacy.

Dera Guest first of all thanks for your nice review ,

we are very satisfied with your comment
I just want to point out two things:
the beds are new just changed, we renovated our apartments.
of course we can't change the structure and stair of the house since is from 700. century
Another thing I want to say , all our apartments (not in the B & B will' have the cat) are treated with a special method for mice, and since two years that we have this treatment we never had any problems with mice, we never had any complaints, although Amsterdam and 'very famous for these little visitors, but we are committed to carefully not have these problems anymore.
thanks so much for your stay and see you another time
sincerely
Novella

Stayed here last weekend in one of the appartments. Felt at home as soon as we walked through the door. The couple that own it are really friendly and welcoming. Great central location, within walking distance of all the sites. Flat was in a lovely old traditional dutch building, nicely decorated and clean. Couldn't ask for more. :)

Very happy with the accommodations, got upgraded! Location is perfect, close to train station, but not too close. Very family friendly, modern character, but homey. Forgot to call ahead for late arrival, but luckily someone else had and got there at the same time.

Room Tip: This b&b isn't overlooking a main street, so is pretty quiet.

Nothing much I can add on top of the other reviews already! We loved our stay at the blue sheep. We had the smaller apartment, which was just perfect - comfy, very cool and perfectly proportioned for two people. The steep stairs might be a little challenging for some... but all part of the charm of a proper amsterdam town house! The area is nice and quiet (well, in january anyway) but 5 mins from the station and town. Finally, as others have mentioned, we had hands down the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had as well as lots of help, advice and good cheer from our hosts.

This B&B was all we had hoped for and more. A very cosy environment in a quiet street. Two seperate bedrooms where we actually fit (not some improvised '2nd bedroom') with a wonderful bathroom and little kitchen. Ideal for a couple with 2 kids. What made the real difference though, was the warm welcome from the hostess, her sweet energy, and great advice on restaurants, places to visit etc. The kids comments: 'this is the BEST hotel we've ever been to'. They felt so welcome as well. The two adorable little dogs added to the charm. And the breakfast is the cherry on the cake! Sitting with fellow travelers, enjoying fresh, high quality food, made by hostess herself, on the spot. A home away from home.
