The Amrath Hotel Alkmaar is situated conveniently for guests - walkable to the train and bus station as well as the city center. Given that Alkmaar is a fairly small city, one expects that the hotel will be quiet and is not disappointed. Our room was spacious and clean with moderately comfortable beds and sweet-smelling toiletries.

We borrowed an iron and ironing board (this does wonders to "shrink" oft-worn jeans, btw!), but were unable to borrow a converter as we were told most of the American converters had been stolen. Damn.

Internet is a bit pricey, yet we opted to use the computer in the lobby anyways. After about five minutes of brutally slow connection, we notified the desk and were refunded the money without question. Very nice.

We passed on breakfast so could not comment on that. Walking into the city center was about 5 minutes and quite picturesque. Alkmaar is also fairly convenient to attractions like Zuiderzeemuseum.

Despite the relative lack of internet connection, I would certainly stay here again and definitely recommend it for your stay in Alkmaar.

I Stayed at Amrath Alkmaar between 26-28th of April 2010, I paid 75 Euros plus 15 for breakfast.

The hotel is very centrally located, walk five minutes in one direction and you are in the center and walk five minutes in the other direction and you are at the railway station with connections to Schiphol and Amsterdam. It is also easy to find by car as it is just to follow the signs for city center (from Amsterdam) and you will pass it. You can park at the hotel (15 Euros) or on the street (expensive in day, free at night).

Checking in was quite quick and I had a medium/large room on the 2nd floor overlooking an inner yard. The room was Ok in shape and the bed as also OK. It was actually a bit cold in the room and I couldn’t find a way to turn the heat up but it is nice to sleep in a cool room. There is internet (WiFi, couldn’t get it working) and wired (worked) for 10 Euros a day.

Breakfast for 15 Euros was almost a rip off, some buns, cereals, cheese, bacon, eggs etc. but nothing very special to motivate this price. I think you can get a far cheaper breakfast anywhere in town. The city of Alkmaar is very nice with shops and restaurants and a cheese market on Fridays (summer time). Check out the Biermuseum!

Second time at this hotel. Its quite near the train station and not far from the center of Alkmaar so quite handy to all the sights. Room was OK, bed comfortable my only gripe was that the shower in the morning was lukewarm. Did not have breakfast as left early. Staff were very helpful.

We stayed for one night. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly. We had a junior suite and the room was good, large jacuuzi bath and separate shower. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

The one aspect of the hotel that seemed a little less than the 4 star quality was the breakfast area, it was in the front reception area of the hotel and looked more suitable for an Ibis than a 4 star hotel. We didnt have breakfast included but gather it was 15 euros each. When we stayed the hotel was busy and a notice in the lift indicated that you had to book a slot for breakfast rather than turn up when you wanted because the area clearly couldnt cope with the numbers when the hotel was full. Again this seemed a little odd for a 4 star hotel.

The location was good, just a little away from the main shopping area and fairly close to the train station
