De Pont is the best museum of contemporary art in Holland and fast becomming one of the best in Europe. It has works of Anish Kapoor, Ai Weiwei, Robert Therrien, Thomas Schütte, Katharina Grosse and many others. The light in the museum is wonderful. The price is modest. The museum has a bookshop and a café that offers a lunch menu. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic collection of contemporary art with some wonderful pieces by many of my favorite artists! In an old wool factory, there are the large exhibition spaces, but also a row of smaller "cell" like rooms each focussing on works by one or two artists. Really well designed and laid out museum. Nice balance of Dutch artists, with more internationally known artists-Kapoor, Boltanski, Troeckel, Turrell and on and on. The second time I was there, there was an exhibit of student/master collaborative work which was much weaker, but that happens. Just check the rotating exhibits ahead of time if you only want to see specific things.

My only peeve is the museum shop would not accept swipe (aka US) credit cards. While this is fairly typical in Netherlands, this was the only museum that I found would not even try it. Most other place resist but will try, and then the card will work. They had no interest in trying, which was too bad, as I was ready to drop a bundle on some good catalogs.

Visited here for the first time to see the exhibition of Katharina Grosse. Exhibition was intriguing and set up in a way that kept the viewer interested all the way through.
From the Museum's own collections the works of Anish Kapoor were very impressive.

My wife and myself often tour Europe to visit contemporary art exhibitions and museums.
We had never been to De Pont at Tilburg.
We did it this morning and were surprised by both the quality of the collection and the scenography and design chosen to present each piece of art in the most appropriate way.
I advise you to pay a visit to the museum website prior to your visit to prepare it properly.

Really, this is the first review? There are good reasons why Tilburg doesn't get a huge number of tourists. But if you like modern art and happen to be passing through Tilburg (to visit the only Trappist brewery in the Netherlands, perhaps), I'm going to recommend the De Pont. It is fairly close the to train station, currently costs 8 Euros (free with the Museumkaart), is open Tue - Sun till 5 PM. De Pont is in a cool old factory, has a surprising amount of natural light given the venue, and has a fairly impressive collection of modern art. I tend to be a bit mixed on modern art, it can be more about making a statement then about talent, and that is the case here as well. But, there are some quiet impressive paintings and drawings in the permanent collection, the green room leaves quite an impression, and in general I found it to be worth the money and time.
