An eye opener, well worth a detour! I learned a lot about the blanket making process/industry - involving collecting and treating wool and huge and very noisy weaving looms, resulting in lovely coloured blankets. Men were weavers, women were spinning. Seems global division of labour? Now it's all computerized.
To offset the past, there was a lovely exhibit of contemporary wall hangings and of damask weaving. The latter is accompanied by an audio tour providing information about the designs woven into the fabrics which tell stories of war and peace and more! Another eye opener!
Since the 1960s using textiles in art also interests men, happy to report. The audio tour is very informative, adapting eye to new(er) contexts.
