“Is this the most wonderful cathedral in Holland?”

St. John's Cathedral
Ranked #2 of 65 things to do in Den Bosch
Certificate of Excellence

YES~! Erected in 1220, this 73 metre tall Gothic structure takes your breath away. Sadly, acid rain, has started to damage this masterpiece but the Dutch are working hard to save it. In true quirky Dutch style, one of the angel statues has been added holding a mobile phone to its ear apparently to signify having a direct line to God! They really are a fun, lighthearted culture at times who can really laugh at themselves - although the hard-liner preservationists are very upset with this new statue.

This was a really beautiful and impressive cathedral that luckily enough was open when I was visiting. As impressive on the outside with it's hard fasad as impressive was it on the inside with the soft colours, beautiful windows and decorations.

This cathedral was absolutely beautiful. We were fortunate that we attended services on a day that the guilds were having a special celebration. There were many people dressed in medieval costumes representing the different guilds in the town during the Middle Ages, and they processed in at the beginning of the service. After Mass, they were very kind to answer our questions, and you could see the pride they took in their town and in their guilds. Very interesting!

Marvellous, impressive church, completely renovated! Not to miss! Entering this church is like stepping back in the Middle Ages. Mass every Sunday!

This cathedral is in my hometown and it's still one of the best I've ever visited. The stained glass is beautiful, also from the outside at night when the light inside shines through the window. For me this place is also a place for reflection, the Maria chapel in this cathedral is special.
