It is unfortunate that the keys and money collection is administered by the Town House Hotel at the address given by the apartments - they do themselves a great dis-service!
After a 20 minute walk from the hotel - where we were expected to go for breakfast, wee found the entrance to the apartments - a door next to a steak house that is open until 11pm. Inside we were greeted by an unlit stairway up to the first floor where we found our "apartment" - more a one-roomed bedsit - at the front of the building. I knocked over the tattered ironing board as I entered, an auspicious start! The room was excellently equipped, I don't think. A double bed with a kitchen sink parked next to it. At it's foot was a black leather sofa which had seen better days facing a small TV set. The room smelt damp and bore no relationship to the pictures we had seen on the web when we made the booking. Fortunately, on the way back to the hotel to cancel the booking we dropped in to the Hotel Grand L'Empereur and found they had had a cancellation. we got a superior room there for half the price of the so-called apartment. Further research on the net has revealed that one japanese visitor has been foolish enough to stay the twice, 8 years apart, and found it was just as abysmal in January as it was on his last visit 8 years ago. An establishment to be avoided like the plague.

Room Tip: Avoid anything in the La Bergere group.

We planned to stay with my girl friend in this hotel for the weekend and here is what happened:
We wanted to check in at 12pm and were told told to come back around 3 or 4pm as the room was not ready (hum...). We kind of figured out that that there was something wrong in the air. Anyways...we came back around 5pm to leave them a bit more time and were told that there was a problem...a group of businessmen had decided to stay at the last minute and they were a priority over us as they of course bring more business to the company. The only plan B with my girl friend and I was to stay in a hotel on a parking lot on the other side of town for our romantic adventure. Can you imagine our surprise? Luckily we have a sense of humour. We were surprised to have this happen at a hotel which has such a good Trip Advisor rating. OUR ADVICE: DOUBLE-CHECK WHEN YOU BOOK A ROOM HERE THAT THE ROOM WILL ACTUALLY BE AVAILABLE.

Nice, clean apartment overlooking the railway station. This was no problem. It was nice to sit on the window ledge watching the world go by. We were in aprtment no 50 and the stairs could be a problem for anyone with difficulties as no lift available. All ameniteis were provided even to the washing up liquid. The apartment is in a good location within easy walking distance of the main attractions. Hotel staff were very polite and helpful at checking in and out. Did not use the restaurant at the hotel so cannot comment on their breakfast, Woul definately stay again if in the area.

My husband and I, travelling together with a one year old child and her grandmother, booked a two room apartment at La Bergere for two nights so that we could attend a wedding in the centre of Maastricht. Our booking was confirmed at least 2 months ahead of our arrival. On the day we were to arrive, we received another confirmation, saying that the child's cot was organised. We were shocked to say the least, then, when we were told on arrival (at 8.30 pm) that the hotel had been overbooked, and we had been moved to another hotel. The explanation given to us for this was that if groups book through "Expedia", these bookings have to be guaranteed. Aparently, booking directly through the La Bergere website isn't worth the electronic form it is done on.

Although told that a "comparable room" had been reserved for us, this was most definitely not the case since we had booked an apartment, not a room, and with two bedrooms, whereas the "family room" they had booked consisted of just one large room, without any kitchen facilities. Upon our insistence, they managed to secure at least a room with a second bedroom. In the taxi on the way to this hotel, we came to realise that we were travelling out of Maastricht altogether, and that the hotel was situated in a village some 20 km away! None of this had been pointed out to us by the management at La Bergere. Once we got to the hotel, the restaurant was closed, and with no supermarket or open restaurant in the village, we were forced to beg the hotel manager to scramble up some sandwiches for our dinner, which he did very obligingly.

Needless to say, we missed the pre-wedding festivities of that night in Maastricht. The following day, we managed to get back to the originally booked apartment, which was serviceable, but a little dark, and it was impossible to open the windows in the livingroom although it was sweltering hot.

La Bergere did foot the remainder of the bill in terms of the first hotel since this was actually a far nicer place (Little Switerland), and paid for our (long) taxi rides to and from Maastricht. However, the lack of care with which we were treated, particularly given that we are a family with a small child, and the sense of dishonesty in the overbooking policy left us with a distinctly negative attitude towards the management of this hotel.

While staying here, I needed access to check my e-mail. They lent us a small laptop. Initially, I couldn't get the internet access to work, but I fiddled with the settings and got it working. While we were here, we learned that my father-in-law had unexpectedly passed away. We went to try to make an emergency call to the States and even though it was quite late, the nice man working the desk, let us make the call for free and even stepped out to give us some privacy. Because we couldn't reach our family, he told us that if we got a call back, that he would run over to our appartment during the night and let us know. (there was no working phone in the apartment and the office is about a block away from the office) They couldn't have been nicer to us during a very difficult time and we will always remember this!

It is about a block away from the train station and about six or so blocks away from the footbridge that takes you into Old Maastrict. (We did the walking based on a brochure we purchased from the visitor's center and it was excellent!)

To get to our apartment, we had to go up two very steep flights of stairs. While this wasn't a problem for us, this could be an issue for some people. There could be an elevator, but I couldn't find it.

The actual apartment was great. Very big, clean with two bathrooms and two bedrooms. Very quiet. If we were staying longer, we would have used the full kitchen and bought groceries to save us money on dining expenses.

Also, to purchase the breakfast from them it, was 17 Euros/person. We opted to go to the local backery about three blocks away (and on our way the old section of town) and spent much less and had a great breakfast.

Thank you again for helping us during such a difficult time!
