“Average - not 4 star”
Reviewed April 15, 2011

This was my second trip to Nijmegen and first stay at this hotel On the plus side they allowed us to check in early (10.30am).
The location is good. It is just outside the city and in a residential neighbourhood but a level stroll takes you to the centre in 10 to 15 minutes.
It is definitely dated. The decor is very dark, 1970's style. The room carpet was heavily stained; the bathroom had a sliding door which was heavily chipped with exposed wood.
The shower had good strong water pressure and the temperature was constant.
The mattress was exceptionally soft, but surprisingly comfortable.
The TV in the room was a very old set that struggled with the few channels available.
There was a fridge in the room that although clean was past it's sell-by date. The back was exposed but worked well enough to keep bottled water cool. As with many hotels, buy your water elsewhere in a local shop or pay 2 euros for a small bottle in the hotel.
There was no tea tray in the room, but one was available from reception if you felt brave enough to ask the staff who, with the exception of the lady who worked the morning shift, were brusque to say the least.
Breakfast was satisfactory. Scrambled eggs and bacon were the hot choices but plently of cereals, breads, fruit, cold cuts etc. Also good strong coffee which I though was surprisingly good for a hotel.
The cost of our stay with 270 euros for 3 nights bed and breakfast.
Overall this was an average hotel, not 4 star, but I would stay here again if the Mercure was fully booked.

After a stay here I reckoned one thing, you will either love or hate this hotel.A 50 per rating does not surprise.
Anyway we loved it.With a family we were given two adjoining suite, wonderfully huge and spacious overlooking the city and the river, fine large bathroom ,TV ,minibar etc.
Elevator straight to the leisure centre which was a decent size swimming pool and sauna along with showers.(bear in mind the leisure centre is unsupervised)
Friendly check in and departure.
However the hotel is very unapologeticly dated. It is really a step back in time to the bygone affluence of the 70's and hasn't modernised one bit since so one can see where negative reviews would crop up.
That said and done the kids didn't give a damn about the dacor and we had a lovely stay there.
When bellbottoms and skinny ties come back in fashion book a stay here , get that Sean Connery type hair cut and from your 4th floor suite pretend you are on a mission from M15 saving the world while you can watch a beautiful Dutch city live in the new millenium.

We stayed in what was described as a "de-luxe" double room but as our title suggests there was certainly NO "luxe"". A 4star rating is very misleading. The room was very dated including the bathroom. The room was clearly a smoking room in the past as cigarette burns were evident on the chairs in the room and bath area although the smell of smoke could not be detected. The bracket to hang the shower head was coming from the wall making it impossible to direct the water where required and as the water pressure was low you needed to remove the shower head to rinse the lower half of your body or remain covered in bubbles. The overall decor of the bathroom was depressing, from the circa. 1970's dark brown wall tiles to the seldom seen shower curtain which we all know sticks to you. For a romantic weekend perhaps it would be an idea to mention that the room contains 2 single beds. That said once pushed together they stayed together and were comfortable. The wardrobe space is limited, staying anything longer that a week end would prove to be difficult. A mini bar was mentioned but completely empty. Documentation in the room suggested you use the vending machine in the hall way which contained soft drinks and water only. Direct hotel parking is not available. It's pay & display and can only be paid for by using a bank card with Chipknip. Bike hire is available from the hotel at a reasonable price but check the quality before leaving as the front light did not work on ours. The restaurant doesn't have a large choice to eat but nether-the-less was nice. Breakfast wasn't bad here there was enough to choose from. As with the bedroom the decor in the bar & dining/breakfast room is also dated. The staff where friendly and were knowledgeable in giving information about the area. Other "good" points where not having to check-out until 12.00 and free mints!!

As per other reviews, this place has seen better days. It's an 1960's decor but has no stairs! The bathroom might not be wheelchair excesible but the rooms are young family stroller excessible. The staff are very good and bar manager very accomodating. The breakfast is very good with fresh bread and several toppings to choose from, it is the same each day. We had a room at the end of the hallway and it had ample room. Yes the double bed is two twins next to each other, but this is the norm in Europe.

Great location close to the museums and near one end of the commecial area. It's located in a nice quiet residential neighbourhood.

Would be nice if Internet were free, but KPN service is charged by time used rather than per hr units.

In summary, you would not come to Njmegen to visit this hotel but Njmegen is a great place to visit and this is the good place to spend the night.

The place is a little run down in very serious and urgent need of renovation. Staff did what they could, but can't possibly make this value for money. Location is good from where you can explore the lovely city and surroundings.

i would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone. Would you believe this? we were on our honeymoon and the double bed was nothing but 2 single beds put side by side!!!! when we complained about this, we were given another room when it became available... but guess what? this bed had 2 single mattresses and a wooden plate in between terribly uncomfortable. wardrobe space very limited. breakfast ok though nothing special. hotel staff know limited english and not helpful - when we asked about transport buses, trains, etc., the only thing they could do give us a photocopy of a map that could tell us where the train station is . they had no info on buses, times, etc. Don;t expect to find any brouchers about possible excursions! at least there was an indoor pool. nothing appealing about the hotel decoration. dont be fooled by learning its a "4 star", when i was in France, a hotel which was not even 3 star, had more attractive rooms. We only took this hotel because we had no option as we were travelling with a tour organised by a travel agent, something which i ll probably wont do again, as from this experience i learnt that they choose unpopular hotels so that they can make a good bargain.

i m not usually a pessimistic person but i dont want anyone to waste his holiday if it can be prevented.

I stayed in this hotel due to business trip. However the rooms could not be booked over company. So I booked over hotels.com. By chance I met a colleague, and asked him about the price. He was paying the company rate, and me 120 Euro, hence my first disappointment. Other disappointments are already written by others, just to add: a very poor breakfast buffet, dirty curtains (found one dead fly stuck). Very soft beds, which is very uncomfortable for me. The staff was friendly to me. There are better hotels in Nijmegen. I have tried Mercure, which is much better. This hotel is not worth this high price !
