Large clean rooms, friendly staff, nice breakfast.
Wonderful view from restaurant and room. Good location to visit wonderful Hoge Veluwe and Burgers' zoo, however Arnhem is not so interesting to visit.

If you are intending to stay in Arnhem especially if you going to visit the battle sites in both Arnhem and Oosterbeek then this is the hotel for you. A great location which is only a relaxing 15 min walk into the city centre with its excellent shops and bars. Also only a 5 min drive to Oosterbeek. The hotel service is excellent and very clean.

This hotel is conveniently located about 1KM from the Arnhem train depot. The staff is excellent and very helpful. My room was beautiful with an outside terrace furnished with table and chairs for enjoying a gorgeous view of the Rijn river. It is very comfortable in size and arrangement. I recommend upgrading to the Premium Internet service for best performance.

Excellent hotel for location to Arnhem, just 15-20 minutes on foot. Perfect to sit on the terrace with a cold beer and watch the Rhine barges. Rooms of a good standard with excellent breakfast. Very friendly staff. Good links via the nearby tram to Oosterbeek.

There is nothing fancy about this place but the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Our room had a fabulous view of the Rhine River, a nice bath and was clean. Their restaurant was pretty good and offered a nice breakfast buffet and a good dinner.

Stayed here in Aug 2013. Beautiful view from the rooms as all are overlooking the Rhine river. Room was spacious and clean. A bit of a walk (about 20 minutes) from downtown and no restaurants (other than the one in the hotel) are close.

I booked a two night stop over en route from southern Germany to Amsterdam in order to visit Arnhem battlefield sites. First impressions were not encouraging but after a 500 km journey I wasn't disposed to conduct a detailed inspection before moving into the room. That proved to be a mistake as had I done so I would have left immediately.

Reception staff were welcoming and assured me that I had been allocated a quiet room as requested. The room turned out to be in the basement, down a steep and narrow staircase. The lift doesn't give access to the basement rooms. The room reflected the drab and poorly maintained exterior and public areas of the hotel. It was reasonably spacious but dingy and badly lit. Furniture and fittings had clearly had a hard life and everything appeared to be in need of a good scrubbing, redecoration, or replacement. The bathroom was cramped, pretty dire in appearance and finish, and certainly not a place in which to spend any longer than absolutely necessary. The towels were one step away from threadbare and only one hand towel and one bath towel were supplied for two people. The patio door overlooked a tatty tiled area with a river view - not that we were able to access the patio as the door would not open more than 4 or 5 inches because a locked restrictor bar had been fitted. Exit via the patio door in an emergency would have been something of a problem.

The hotel is not fitted with in room safes, which makes it unsuitable for people with valuable items to which easy access is required.

After a stroll into town, which gave time for reflection, we decided that we had had too tiring a day to drive on to Amsterdam immediately but couldn't face more than one night in such an unprepossessing environment. On returning to the hotel I asked if I could cancel the following nights accommodation and was told that I could do so and subsequently extended our stay in Amsterdam to 3 nights at the Marriott.

The assurance that our room, 101, was a quiet room, turned out to be a poor joke. The noise of people moving up and down the upper corridors, opening and closing internal and external doors, and conversing into the early hours inhibited sleep in spite of the tiring effect of a 500 km drive. Even worse was the racket of some sort of plant or heating equipment close to the bedroom. It eventually stopped at about 0100 but resumed before 0700. This is not a place to stay if a quiet night is on the agenda.

We didn't eat in the hotel; the scruffy and much fingered menus in the bedroom did nothing to stimulate the appetite.

I don't understand how this hotel earns 4 and 5 star ratings from visitors. You would need to live in a cave in order think that it merits more than a poor rating. One doesn't expect anything special for €150 per night (without breakfast) but the NH Rijnhotel falls well below the standard provided at a much lower price than, for example, Premier Inn in the UK. It would be poor value at half the price.

To add insult to injury, and in spite of being told that I could cancel my reservation for the second night, I was told when paying the bill that the person who had accepted the cancellation had left a note to the effect that I should be charged for the second night. However, it was worth €150 not to have to spend another night in such dismal accommodation.

Room Tip: Find another hotel.
