Gastronomically speaking Sneek is a bit of a wasteland. Many middle of the road restaurants, good food, but nothing special. If you are looking for excellent cuisine, try the small town next door, Joure. It has three excellent restaurants. But Sneek has at least one restaurant, really worth a visit. Cook & Ny is a well-designed tapas-like restaurant with a twist. It serves a load of tapas-like dishes, which are slightly bigger that your normal tapas. There is so much choice on the menu (yes, for vegetarians too) that choosing between the many tapas (priced between € 4 and € 8) either gives you a headache or a very interesting and entertaining time. In order to cure the headache, we went for the 'Tapasfestival', serving the chef's selection of cold tapas followed by soup and warm tapas, plus the incredible mini-desserts (€ 35 per person). Apart from the menu there are the suggestions of the day, written on the blackboard. There is a small lounging area for a group. Apart from that the best places are along the wall on comfortable bench seats. We had a great evening. Unfortunately the pleasant servers got a bit overwhelmed by the full house. Patience is advised.
