Huge room scantily and cheaply furnished, no shampoo or proper soap, only liquid soap in dodgy dispensers, no kettle. At this price - €105 per night per double room - one usually also gets a mini-bar which is of course always a rip-off, but at least one can temporarily remove some over-priced drinks and chill one's own stuff. Fletcher just leave out 0.5 litre bottles of water at room temperature @ €2.00! The final blow was to find when checking out that they charge for parking: €12.50 per day!!
On the positive side, breakfast was well organised and offered wide choice. We didn't fancy the menu, so didn't try dinner. Loads of other places to dine nearby.

We also booked this hotel for one night with a coupon; therefore we were not expecting that much. We were actually quite surprised as soon as we entered the hotel; the staff from the reception was friendly, thoughtful and made us feel welcome. The fact that we were quite early (check-in is at 3pm, we were there at 1.30pm) was no problem. One lady of the reception desk gave us a short tour around the building and gave us a little bit information about the history of the hotel, that has been a former palace.
We had room 7 (first floor, in the old part, window facing the veranda and garden). The room was quite big and clean, although a bit dusty. The interior was a bit old-fashioned but comfortable, the bathroom was clean. We also liked the free coffee and tea facilities in the room.
Despite being a bit expensive, the breakfast was sufficient to us as it had fresh coffee/tea/milk/fruit juices, croissant and other bread, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, bacon and egg, and it was served at the nice veranda.
We have had a nice stay at Paleis Stadhouderlijk Hof and had not experienced anything that has been said before in other reviews, but maybe we have been lucky with the room that has been given to us.

First of all, don't let the pictures of the hotel mislead you. Our room had nothing of the grandor that is promised on the site. We stayed at three star hotels that were fancier than what we got here. In the bathroom there were no miniature soap bars and shampoo. The plastic shower curtain on the plastic rail looked rather shabby. The orange and blue carpet tiles were completely misplaced in a 4 star hotel that pretends to have "Palace" as its second name. Not to mention the cheap lamps and furniture. If I were a hotelowner I would simply be embarrassed to display them in one of my hotel rooms.

The first unpleasant surprise was however the paid parking and the fact that I had to hand in my car key at the reception for the stuff to move my car if needed. Both receptionists were unfriendly, clinically professional, really unaccommodating.

The second downer was at the restaurant. We could not eat a la carte, but were served a fixed menu of minuscule size. I am aware of the fact that haute cuisine is characterized by humongous plates with little on them but we never expected it to be so little and so average.

Average is, as far we are concerned, the best characterization for a hotel-restaurant which has the pretentions of a de luxe establishment.

Would I recommend this hotel to other travellers? Let's do a quick recap: paid parking, no free internet, dodgy room, unfriendly staff, high prices. Guess not.

Although it wasn't easy for us to find the location of the hotel, and parking was a little ways away, this hotel was a lovely place to stay. The building is beautiful, and the room we had was huge. Everything was very clean, the decor was modern and updated, the heated floor in the bathroom was a really nice touch. Our room overlooked the front of the building on the town square. Even though there was a wedding going on at the hotel the night we stayed, it was very quiet.
The staff didn't speak much English but tried to be very helpful. The breakfast was more than adequate and served in a pretty part of the hotel.
Location was great, easy walking to restaurants. Absolutely would stay there again.

Nice hotel. Decent room! Clean. Beautiful hotel with lots of character.
We booked two days before through a hotel bookings site on internet and got a good price.
The hotel is in the middle of the city-center of Leeuwarden. within two minutes there are dozens of bars, shops and restaurants. Parking your car is 12,50 per night.

Rooms were just avarage, but that's Europe for you. I loved the pictures we took there. Some people said the service was not good. But I was the bride on that day, I guess no one would be mean to a bride, so I had a good time. And the location was perfect for us, cause city hall was just acrss the road.

The hotel is smack in the centre of town so you really can't get a better location. But indeed the rooms have no character (totally modern) and there is little of the old flavour left except in large common rooms. Service is not fantastic especially compared to standards in the Netherlands. They are not awfully eager to help. Parking is indeed an issue so we ended up leaving our car in a public parking. Nonetheless we enjoyed our stay. We got a suite for a decent price and breakfast in the garden was extremely pleasant. I would probably go back again.
