“Value for money and a great place to stay!”
Reviewed April 18, 2012

We stayed at this hotel 3 times now, because my wife is from the Netherlands and has a daughter living in this area.
The hotel is big and the rooms are very spacious. All the rooms are non- smoking, but a lot of the rooms, have a door so you can step out into a garden, where there are chairs out and ashtrays.
The people running this hotel, are very friendly and helpful. The new wing is absolutely gorgeous. Break fast is complementary and very elaborate. All and all , its always nice to stay here and we will definitely go there again!!!

Room Tip: the new wing is the nicest, but all rooms are true value for money!!

Rooms, lobby, resto & bar are quite nice. Rooms are a bit older and could use some upgrades. Also it's quite confusing finding the rooms. I was on the 1st floor ad had to go upstairs, cross a skywalk, then back downstairs! Found it a bit odd. Other than that, locations isn't the greates as not within walking distance to shops, restos, etc.

I must confess I was a little biased when booking this hotel. I had never been to a Van der Valk hotel before and I really expected a simple, none too fancy and very basic hotel.
I was surprised in a very good way!
Hotel lobby is big with friendly and welcoming staff. Upon booking the room I had asked for a room with clear view on the parking lot so I could see my parked car. That request was fulfilled and the room had indeed a clear view on parking with plenty of space.
The room itself was big with an outside terrace and a very large bathroom with clean and good working utilities.
Bar and restaurant were surprisingly good. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel with plenty of dishes to choose from.
All in all, great place and definitely value for money.

Room Tip: If you stay in this hotel because of a visit to the nearby TT circuit and you want to monitor your c...

This is the third time I have stayed at the hotel since it was remodelled, and once again I am overwhelmed by what a great place it is. I came with a slew of people who were taking a course, and everyone there (all 22) agreed that its a top hotel. Van der Valk has been spending some money to upgrade the hotel from its stodgy Dutch past to a very modern, trendy look. Ask for a room in the new section, they are ultra-hip, with a bath and a shower, all decked out in grey and black, massive flat-panel television and great beds. Don't miss the brunch on Sunday, at eur 25 per person, it's a steal!
The staff are very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable, and you can even rent a bike for a ride in to Assen. On the A-28, close to the Center of Assen, the TT and a lovely wooded area. Great bar.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the new section, with a view of the woods ("bos").

Stayed there 3 days / 2 nights for a business trip. Hotel is mainly business oriented (due to its location) with a very friendly and professional staff. Many conference rooms, luxuriously designed entrance area with passage ways going into every direction (gives a spacious feel). Good restaurant in a very nicely designed setting, fair prices. Small but nice gym with a set of proper A-class fitness machines. Room was very nice, spacious, nice finish, 2 x 1 person bed (no 1 x 2 person bed or king/queen size beds available in the hotel) bath room was very basic in both finish and features, but relatively large and contained bath tub, separate shower cabin and toilet, so still nice. 40" LCD screen as tv/monitor, large desk to work at, water cooker and tea in room, 2 comfy chairs and coffee table in a corner, large window pane / sliding door that grants access to gallery balcony available to all rooms in that section of rooms. When window is open, cars driving by on the highway may cause (too much) noise, but with the window closed this possible noise is inaudible.

Breakfast is large and includes fresh bread, fruit and various prepared warm dishes to choose from among other things.

Assen center very nearby (2 km away).

We enjoyed our weekend in this hotel very much. It is superbly located near the A28 highway, and next to a wood where one can have a nice long walk. The center of Assen is a little further, but within walking distance (about 2 km). It runs one of the better restaurants within the Van der Valk hotel chain. Breakfast (buffet-type) was excellent. Recommended location for touring and exploring the province of Drente, and the city of Groningen.
