We hired the Crewe and Harpur for the weekend along with all the cottages in the courtyard bringing family and friends together (a group of 32) for my 50th birthday celebrations. It was a perfect venue, all the bedrooms were of a high standard and the catering kitchen provided us with everything we needed to cater for over the whole weekend. The bar provide a fabulous space for our party on Saturday evening, we stocked the shelves ourselves and everyone loved being behind the bar. We all had the most memorable weekend thanks to the Crewe and Harpur I couldn't recommended it highly enough.

Room Tip: The bedrooms in the Crewe and Harpur are all spaceous with modern stylish en-suites. Most of the dou...

We booked the Crewe and Harpur for a 4 night stay over half term with three other families- 9 children in all! It was a perfect place with enough space to accomadate us all easily. It's fully kitted out for a lot of people and great fun sitting in a bar relaxing in the evening.

We would thoroughly reccomend it to everyone but don't want it to be too popular as we want to be able to book it again next year!

Thankyou for such a great holiday!

We had an absolutely fantastic time at the Crewe & Harpur and our guests couldn't get over what an amazing venue it was - it's such a simple and yet brilliant concept to be able to hire a former hotel and its adjacent cottages as a self catering venue! The whole weekend was perfect from start to finish - from the fish and chips we ordered in advance from the village chippy on the Friday, to the catered meal provided on site by Peak District Fine Foods and the party afterwards, through to Sunday lunch at the Royal Oak, Hurdlow. The brilliant weather we enjoyed helped of course! Big thanks to Paul and his team for helping our celebrations go so smoothly.

Room Tip: All rooms were beautifully presented, and the bathrooms ... AMAZING!!

We stayed here in August 2011 for a 40th birthday, a large party including lots of children, all the rooms and outbuildings were used. We had the best time ever!! Loved having the whole pub to ourselves!! So much fun. Fantastically equipped for families. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to get together a big group of friends!!!!

Kitchen well equipped, rooms really nice and clean and comfortable.

We hired the Crewe & Harpur for my husbands 50th birthday in January 2012. It was a fantastic venue. The rooms are of a very high standard, no one was disappointed with their rooms. The bar area was great, we took all our own drinks and stocked up the drinks fridges behind the bar so everyone could help themselves. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery, cutlery and pans so catering for all of us was fine. The oven did take a bit of getting used to! With two large fridges and the chest freezer there was plenty of space for food storage.
Everyone said they would definitely love to return some time, so we are looking forward to the next big birthday to give us the excuse!

Room Tip: Room 5 is definitely the best room as it has a lovely bathroom and has countryside views.

An absolutely fantastic venue for a 30th birthday party which could easily accommodate 32+ people.

The whole place is pretty much set up from the days it was a working pub and hotel and as such is a very surreal environment. We just couldn't wait to settle in and for me to become a landlord for the weekend.

The owners very helpfully suggested a number of caterers and we had a great dinner on Saturday night which didn't require any of us to lift a finger. This was followed by dancing and drinking in the bar area - the large space easily accommodated everyone. We hardly used the adjacent living room - it was just much more enjoyable in the pub!

We bought a barrel of the local ale which lasted the entire weekend (I had to force myself to have the last pint on Sunday night after two very heavy nights of drinking!) and there are plenty of glasses to last the night: just remember you have to clean up in the morning! The two dishwashers in the kitchen helped with that though.

As for the accommodation, it's absolutely superb. The cottages are much larger than I thought they would be and were all made up to a very high standard. There was a small supply of tea, coffee and sugar in each property and plenty of cafetieres for filter coffee (which isn't provided). There are two dishwashers which make clearing up very easy.

All in all a fantastic venue and I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 and 8 in the Crewe and Harpur are the only rooms which have a view of the countryside. Havi...

22 members of our extended family spent a week in the Crewe and Harpur plus Etwell Cottage. The property, setting and customer service from the owners were all first-rate. With ages ranging from 4 to 86, it was great that everyone had personal space to be quiet if needed, plus the two fabulous group areas - the lounge and bar/dining room.
In the Crewe, all the bedrooms were spacious, comfortable and with the 'luxury' of en-suite bathrooms and TVs, there was no morning queuing for showers (!) and no arguments about what to watch on TV on Christmas Day! The cottage bedrooms were equally well-appointed (except just one TV in the lounge - but between 4 this was fine). The large kitchen had enough pots, pans, crockery and cutlery to cater for large groups - although for a more complex meal than Christmas dinner the worktop space was limited. Two large fridges and two diswashers were indispensible.
The pub proved the main attraction (!) - with the corner 'snug' ideal for quieter chats and serving as an internet cafe, the bar itself was great fun and the spacious dining room area was great for meals, the pub quiz, and board games. We used the lounge for present opening, after meal-resting, evening games and our 'Crewe and Harpur's Got Talent' show on Boxing Day!
The village is also well-served - two pubs (Cheshire Cheese was the best), two cafes, a fish and chip shop and village store. The Royal Oak - just 3 miles away - serves great food if you don't want to cook. There are also loads of great walks in the area if you need to work off a large meal/spending too much time in the 'pub'. All in all it was a fabulous backdrop which helped make our family Christmas really fabulous - thank you!
