We hired the Crewe & Harpur for my husbands 50th birthday in January 2012. It was a fantastic venue. The rooms are of a very high standard, no one was disappointed with their rooms. The bar area was great, we took all our own drinks and stocked up the drinks fridges behind the bar so everyone could help themselves. The kitchen was well stocked with crockery, cutlery and pans so catering for all of us was fine. The oven did take a bit of getting used to! With two large fridges and the chest freezer there was plenty of space for food storage.
Everyone said they would definitely love to return some time, so we are looking forward to the next big birthday to give us the excuse!

Room Tip: Room 5 is definitely the best room as it has a lovely bathroom and has countryside views.

An absolutely fantastic venue for a 30th birthday party which could easily accommodate 32+ people.

The whole place is pretty much set up from the days it was a working pub and hotel and as such is a very surreal environment. We just couldn't wait to settle in and for me to become a landlord for the weekend.

The owners very helpfully suggested a number of caterers and we had a great dinner on Saturday night which didn't require any of us to lift a finger. This was followed by dancing and drinking in the bar area - the large space easily accommodated everyone. We hardly used the adjacent living room - it was just much more enjoyable in the pub!

We bought a barrel of the local ale which lasted the entire weekend (I had to force myself to have the last pint on Sunday night after two very heavy nights of drinking!) and there are plenty of glasses to last the night: just remember you have to clean up in the morning! The two dishwashers in the kitchen helped with that though.

As for the accommodation, it's absolutely superb. The cottages are much larger than I thought they would be and were all made up to a very high standard. There was a small supply of tea, coffee and sugar in each property and plenty of cafetieres for filter coffee (which isn't provided). There are two dishwashers which make clearing up very easy.

All in all a fantastic venue and I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 and 8 in the Crewe and Harpur are the only rooms which have a view of the countryside. Havi...

22 members of our extended family spent a week in the Crewe and Harpur plus Etwell Cottage. The property, setting and customer service from the owners were all first-rate. With ages ranging from 4 to 86, it was great that everyone had personal space to be quiet if needed, plus the two fabulous group areas - the lounge and bar/dining room.
In the Crewe, all the bedrooms were spacious, comfortable and with the 'luxury' of en-suite bathrooms and TVs, there was no morning queuing for showers (!) and no arguments about what to watch on TV on Christmas Day! The cottage bedrooms were equally well-appointed (except just one TV in the lounge - but between 4 this was fine). The large kitchen had enough pots, pans, crockery and cutlery to cater for large groups - although for a more complex meal than Christmas dinner the worktop space was limited. Two large fridges and two diswashers were indispensible.
The pub proved the main attraction (!) - with the corner 'snug' ideal for quieter chats and serving as an internet cafe, the bar itself was great fun and the spacious dining room area was great for meals, the pub quiz, and board games. We used the lounge for present opening, after meal-resting, evening games and our 'Crewe and Harpur's Got Talent' show on Boxing Day!
The village is also well-served - two pubs (Cheshire Cheese was the best), two cafes, a fish and chip shop and village store. The Royal Oak - just 3 miles away - serves great food if you don't want to cook. There are also loads of great walks in the area if you need to work off a large meal/spending too much time in the 'pub'. All in all it was a fabulous backdrop which helped make our family Christmas really fabulous - thank you!

We have just got back from the Crewe & Harpur, it was brilliant. We hired it to celebrate my 50th Birthday and we weren't disappointed.

We were joined by family and friends ranging in age from 20s to 80s and everyone of them thoroughly enjoyed it.

The concept of running your own pub with individual en-suite accommodation is fantastic, the layout and amenities are great and faultless, they have thought of everything.

We had a hat party on Friday night, a 70s fancy dress on Saturday night and a Black Tie dinner on Sunday......Fantastic

We did a lovely short walk around the area on Saturday (in the snow) which was lovely and went to Chatsworth House on Sunday.

All in all we could not fault anything, the Peak team were helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

Would definitely recommend it for large parties.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 5 as it was my birthday we had the best room, having sais that all the rooms are g...

My self my husband and son joined a moveable feast of friends and family at the Crewe and Harpur over the half term week. We hired the cottages as well as the pub. This proved great as we had a range of ages and requirements within the group. The cottages were largely given over to those with young children who needed some peace and quiet of an evening, but the baby monitor still worked if mum and dad wanted to come across to the main building once the little ones were abed. The rooms in the pub were lovely, kitted out to very high standard and the bathrooms were gorgeous. We did have a couple of issues with the heating at the very top of the building, but the guys who run the place were very courteous and responsive whenever we needed them and sorted out our issues. The kitchen in the Crewe is a bit of a dinosaur but big enough to cater to a full complement of guests, at one point I think we had 33 people sitting down. The pub itself is great and everyone loved being able to pour their own pints. The area is very picturesque and there are some challenging walks right outside your door with access to a couple of flatter bycicle trails with beautiful scenery a short drive away. Overall I would definitly recommend it and the folk who run it could not have been more welcoming or helpful.

Room Tip: Get room 5 in the crewe if you can by far the largest and has a fab roll top bath, and a view out ac...

Fantastic! We just returned from a 3 night stay having taken over the whole Crewe and Harpur, along with the 3 cottages.

Group: 30 adults, mostly couples and a handful of kids. Travel cots were provided and a couple of put up beds for the older kids. Some travelling from as far as Paris for the weekend.

Occasion: My Birthday... and an excuse for a big party.

Village: The village is great, and well worth a visit in it's own right. 2 other good pubs, one doing food, a chippy (rated very highly by those who visited it at 10pm on Friday), village shop, craft centre/hall and even a cool artist studio/gallery down a back alley.

We paid to have 3 barrels of beer put on tap and these were all set and ready to rock when we turned up. (1 bitter, 1 carling, 1 grolsch). We are BIG drinkers and we managed to finish the bitter (the gents LOVED the real ale) and the Grolsch, but was some carling left. We were drinking all night for all 3 nights, so perhaps that helps with deciding on quantity if you are getting beers. Lots of pub fridge space and ice machine for the shorts/wine etc.

Despite it being a sleepy village, you can make plenty of noise INSIDE the pub, but we made sure the smokers were keeping it down outside after 11.

Everyone was amazed by the standard of the rooms (room 5 is best but all are great), cottages are right next to the pub and form the edges of the courtyard, so aren't left out of it, but also have that extra escape of their own kitchens/living rooms if needed.

So all in all, we had a fantastic time. It really was as if we owned our own pub for the weekend. We even had to turn away some walkers who were looking for somewhere to stay on the Saturday night.

We had a big party on Friday, did a great hangover clearing walk on Saturday (nice 5ish mile round walk across ridge to Quiet Woman pub and back), even bigger party on Saturday, and a very sedate Sunday including cinema in the 'lounge' room and pub quiz.

My only complaint was that there weren't enough dishwasher tablets for the amount of times we put the dishwasher on (I know this is lame, but it's hard to come up with anything wrong and we did have to pop across the road for extra after the 10 load of pint glasses was washed).

Book it, enjoy, but don't forget it's MY pub!!! :)

Room Tip: 5 is master bedroom, but all the rooms in C&H are great. There is one twin in one of the cottag...

I had my hen weekend at the Crewe and Harpur and it was immense! The venue is gorgeous and a brilliant idea for a big group - the run of your own pub for the weekend! We had the pub and one of the cottages - we loved every minute. We took on the theme of being in the pub with a pub quiz on the Friday, and took in some fab views on the Saturday with a walk to the Pack Horse Inn. It was great to be able to have a party back at the C&H on saturday night too. My friend who had planned the weekend had done a big Asda shop to see us through which I'd also recommend doing. It was an amazing weekend and I'd recommend it to anybody!
