On visiting this apparently tiny restaurant in Lamphey we assumed that it would be as small inside as it looked from the outside. Nothing could be further from the truth. Immediately behind the small bar at the front is a very pleasant 35-40 cover restaurant where they have both the lighting and the music just about right. The lighting was nice and cosy and the music very pleasant, without being a nuisance if you wanted to chat. I ordered a gammon steak slightly overcooked, which is the way I like it. My wife had the mixed grill and asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare. Both meals were perfectly cooked and presented, and in our view good value for money. The service was very good, with the owners' 15 year old son doing a splendid job, although like most 15 yr olds he was reluctant to show that he was enjoying himself! If I wanted to be "picky" I would suggest that the restaurant get you to your table a little quicker as the bar is too small to have more than say 4 people waiting. Starters delivered earlier with a small delay between courses would probably be better than up to 6 people waiting in the bar with the tables clearly empty and waiting. Just a thought

Sunday lunch at the Lantern is well worth a visit. We were greeted by friendly and attentive staff - nothing was too much trouble. Good selection on the menu and all was cooked to perfection with lots of it . The homemade sweets were lovely and plentiful and was a good finish to the meal- added to which we were offered a take out service for one of our party that couldn't manage one - Thank you to the staff for an enjoyable visit would highly recommend and would visit again

If you are visiting lamphey avoid this little restaurant I found the food mediocre to say the least not freshly sourced as they suggest the scampi was obviously frozen and oven cooked so was not crisp probably sourced from bookers definitely not high end scampi chips were soggy and salad is served with everything would be nice to have a hot veg too much skill perhaps? have eaten there twice should have learnt the first time after very overcooked crevettes wont be back again

We visited the Lantern on a stormy night in August, we were welcomed in by the staff who were very attentive. We ordered Scampi and the chicken curry for adults and spaghetti bolognaise for our 15 month daughter. All were cooked to perfection and you could tell it was perfectly fresh and homemade. We had a cheese board and ice cream to finish which again were excellent quality along with being reasonably priced.
If you are looking for something that bit special without breaking the bank then the Lantern is a must.
