“What a great place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2013

Went for lunch here with my wife 01/11/13 without a booking after a few recommendations.

The place is lovely, old world and extremely friendly. The staff were helpful and eager to get things right.

The food was superb, I had pork belly that was the best I have ever had, my wife had the burger (calling it a burger does not do it justice), home made angus steak to die for!, the desserts - one Fondant and one Crumble were perfect. We tried a bottle of red white, Indian would you believe that - Ritu Cab Sav, that was a real revelation to us, truly very good.

The whole experience was enjoyable and I cannot wait to try the whole thing again.

We booked Sunday lunch for six of us. The food when it finally arrived was good, and the girl who was our main server was really nice. However the service was very very slow, to the point of making the whole thing become a chore! we waited about 35 minutes just to place our order, we were often offered the wrong dishes, and the meals were severed sporadically, on one course we waited about 10 minutes for the last persons meal to arrive.

This was a birthday treat arranged by my wife. It's somewhere that she's taken her work colleagues on a number of occasions, and often spoken about.

The one important part of our 'day out' was that we had our favourite daughter with us... Lunetta the wild whippet of Waddesdon. Absolutely no problem at all, and she curled up on the seat beside my wife whilst we ate lunch, 'invisible' to other diners.

The service and attention was perfect - attentive but not obtrusive.

The building and decor is so English, and very stylish.

Our meals were delicious. Having returned from Venice a week ago, I was hesitant to opt for the Seppio Nero after experiencing a particularly good example there, but couldn't resist the 'challenge'!

Nothing to worry about at all. Lovely!

Great staff too, just the right balance of formal and informal, making you feel comfortable.

One very special mention has to be made to the waitress who had clearly picked up on the fact that it was a birthday celebration, and pudding arrived with an appropriate message spelt out subtlety and beautifully in chocolate around the dish. A lovely touch!

Overall, an extremely agreeable lunch!

The Fox only has 3 bedrooms - it is really a restaurant with rooms and we stayed in the smallest, cheapest room, which was a mistake. Our bathroom was across the corridor with a key to unlock it and only had a very tiny shower unit and no bath. The bedroom was also on the very small side
and there was really nowhere to sit and relax. Having said that, the food was terrific - one of the best meals I have ever eaten and the dining room is very attractive and atmospheric. I think we made a mistake with the bedroom as the others were larger, and ensuite, with a bath in the best one, so if I stayed again, I would not choose the room we had this time.

Room Tip: Do not choose the cheapest room

We booked for 12 and arrived at 12. They didn't seem ready and it was 12.20 before drinks arrived. We were eating by 1. The food was good, although expensive, but service was unacceptably slow. Two hours for a 2-course meal was not good enough. A pity as the memory of previous visits had been warm.

We were recommended to this restaurant by by the proprietor of the b&b at which we were staying and were not disappointed. The atmosphere is utterly charming; very much in keeping with the tradition of an historical country inn. The staff were friendly and obliging and the menu varied and interesting. The service was excellent and the food delectable. A great place to eat on our last night in the Cotswolds.

we called up to confirm last service for lunch (2.30...apparently) before riding in from Stow. Arriving around 2.10, we were told that lunch service was over.......our frowns quickly turned this into an 'OK.....we can serve you but you need to order now'.
A slightly frosty start.......
The pub interior is smart, warm and inviting....and the garden out the back is a perfect spot for a summer drink. Food was typical Cotswolds 'gastropub' food and every dish we ordered was price appropriate and well executed.....however, we didn't dare ask for the dessert menu !
