we had an excellent meal here and were more than impressed with the quality of the food and service. It was also excellent value - we'll be going back as soon as we can.

“A gem in the hills”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2012

A very quiet village in the quiet valley of Prades and Eus, in the foothills of the Pyrenees is the location of a very amazing restaurant. Very well designed, very modern but comfortable, totally unusual but fitting well into the surrounding area. The food and choices fit the design of the place. Well chosen dishes, some typical of the region, at reasonable rates, are very well executed and presented. Truly worth a detour. The two details that could be improved is: the service is a little too casual and there is too much space between the tables, giving an empty feel.

“Simply the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

The situation of this restaurant is breath-taking. As you eat you are surrounded by mountains with lovely views down the valley towards Prades. A short drive beyond St Michel de Cuixa, it is certainly well worth the detour!
The welcome is warm and friendly. the atmosphere relaxed and the food is spectacular. Presentation is beautiful and the blending of different flavours is superb, El Taller is open year round so in Winter you can eat in, beside full length windows looking over the valley. Weekdays there is a Menu du Jour, At the weekend there are two Menus, around 26 and 35 euros, but you can mix and match between them and eat a la carte. There is a wide choice and all the food is fresh, local where possible and beautifully prepared. The children's menu offers a meat or fish option, but be warned, El Taller does not do chips! We have been many times and have never been disappointed. Book in Summer.

“Worth a detour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2012 via mobile

Being in the area (a quiet village just north of the splendid abbey of St Michel de Cuixa) we decided on what we thought would be a simple lunch in the local Bistrot de Pays. El Taller is much more than that - the food and its presentation is worthy of a Michelin star. We only had the formule de midi - a steal at 17.50 euros - rather than the slightly more expensive menus mentioned by other reviewers, but it was superb! There is no need to spend a fortune at this lovely restaurant as the plat de jour is better than the a la carte in many other much more expensive places. The setting is breathtaking also. We sat outside on the decked terrace with a sublime view of the Canigou to the north and to the South, the hills of the Conflent. My husband and I always argue about who has the best seat but this time it was impossible to chose. The plat de jour was two veal tournedos with selection of delectable vegetables and a small side salad. If we had had this on its own, it would only have been 15 euros but we plumped for dessert also which was similarly delicious. If you are in the area: visiting Prades or the abbey, do please give it a try. You will not be disappointed I promise.

“The best restaurant in the this area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2012

Taurinya is just a couple of miles from the famous abbey of St Michel de Cuxa and the restaurant El Taller truly delivers heavenly food. The dining room is light and airy with interesting art work on the walls and the terrace covered by sail shaped material affords shade for diners who want to eat outside at this time of the year.
As the evening was windy we decided to eat indoors, and enjoyed a drink at the bar before taking our places and choosing from the two menus. My husband's choice was a rocket soup topped with whipped goat's cheese and cream. This was followed by king prawns with mixed vegetables, which were just melt in the mouth. I enjoyed stuffed veal escalopes and the other guests had salmon which rapidly disappeared. The waitress and waiter were charming and very efficient, making sure we always had bread ( home made) and drinks.
The desserts are to die for, it is difficult to choose, but all are excellent and as all the food here, beautifully presented. The staff who are young were friendly and discreet. We had a wonderful relaxing evening eating delicious food, bravo the chefs and bravo the staff. We highly recommend this restaurant and feel it is the best place to eat in this area.
