“Unique, bohemienne, great atmosphere”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

I go to Les Halles quite often: rather than the usual iced atmosphere of Zurich restaurant Les Halles offers a warm environment without being as loud as a beer bar. French food and an outstanding internal Italian food shop . . . also unique in Zurich. Les Halles being an ex car garage is bohemienne and good for any type of people. The great thing is you pay as you go and when you are done you just stand and leave without having to wait the bill.
ONLY THING TO KEEP IN MIND: Credit Card not accepted. The price for a whole meal, including wine goes from USD 35 to 70, depending on the wine. The Italian food shop is also an extra-good enoteque so . . . you just add USD 25 to the label price of any bottle and you can take it to your table. Otherwise you can get wine from the bar.

“Its something else than Bahnhofstrasse”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

If you are a bit fed up with Zurich old town and Bahnhofstrasse with full of tourists, it would be a good diversion to come to this area of Zurich "Zürich-West" or West side of Zurich. Les Halles is one of those cool restaurants in this area, which used to be a grey industrial zone. Today, this area became one of the most modern and attractive corners of Zurich. Les Salles used to be a bicycle workshop and the restaurant still handles good quality second-hand push bikes. There is also a delicatessen shop. The food is more French, e.g. Brittany and Normandy specialities. We had mussels and chips (French fries), which were excellent. We first chose the menu, pay for it and in return we get a number shield, with which we can chose our table. The drinks can be fetched at the bar, where you will find quite a collection of various drinks. This place is perhaps more for the local young people of Zurich who speak either German or French. But don't be afraid. That's how you get to know Zurich. This is where the natives are.

“Great local atmosphere, good prices, good food.”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

The travel guides speak well of the place, but the location was a bit off putting at first, being in what seems to be an industrial area. But I'm glad I made the effort. The crowd was friendly and the order of mussels came quickly. I skipped the fries and in between eating the mussels, I just used the bread to soak up the yummy juices. Washed down with some wine - perfect!

Just a note for those taking the very useful bus 31 from the Hauptbanhof. The bus stop for getting down is Hardplatz, which looks like the middle of nowhere. Persevere, look for a flight of stairs leading upwards (literally) to the Hardbrucke - a flyover crossing a large number of railway tracks. There are pedestrian walkways along it and you cross over to Hardstrasse. It's a 600m walk and you can pass by Bogen 33, an interesting furniture shop. It's a nice walk and builds up the appetite.

“Limited experience, however it could have been better”
Reviewed July 15, 2012

We went there for an aperitif after a team even and were staying at the tables outside. The presentation of the food was below average, with a buffet that was not made to resist the attack of 50 people. The buffet was arranged with little love and sense of aesthetics. Personnel was not really helpful.
This is a limited experience since we didn't order a proper meal. But it left an ambiguous feeling. Maybe I will give it another try, but my expectations are low.
