The Chäsalp on the top of Zurich, is beautifully set within the countryside, which makes you feel further away from the city than you really are. The kids love the playground, the little rabbits and in general the wide area in which they can run around outside in summer.

This restaurant is not offering strictly authentic food but much rather a creative concept based on it. The setting in the old barn is cosy and warm.

Here you will get many of the traditional cheese dishes, such as Fondue or raclette, in various variations. Personally I only eat this when there is snow on the ground. So since we went in summer, I tried one of the tasty pasta dishes. Tasty, but way too rich! So much cream added to the sauce that one had to give up after a relatively small portion...

The service was very kind and attentive during our visit!

I would not return for the food, but only for the kids' entertainment...

Chasalp is one of the 3 restaurants at the top near Gockhausen. The car park is huge and on sunny days, sit outside and have dinner is an experience one of it's kind.

For children, there's a very small zoo just next to the building, not much but enough have the kids excited.

Our visit was for my birthday and the had the very traditional älpler makronen (try the Heidi and you are addicted)

Kids shared one adult poitions and did not finish it, my wife had the Ticino makronen, just got half done.

As one of the lesser, Chasalp serves the awesome Appenzeller Beer which fit much better to the style as the dull Feldschlösschen.

Verdict:

+price
+food
+location
+interior
+garden

- ...
let me think .. the card could change from time to time - they server the same food since many years. (wont say that's a pure negative)
:)

Try to go with friends on good weather days - sit outside and just enjoy your life - it's easy enough at Chasalp

The menu is diverse, however, we went there specifically for cheese fondue. They offered classic swiss fondue and variations other additions to the cheese fondue to make it a little more interesting. The restaurant is on the hillside above Zurich in a converted barn in a pasture setting. There were rabbits playing in the grass which were great entertainment to watch through the windows. The food, decor and service all went beyond our expections. (And beyond other fondue restaurants we have tried in Zurich and elsewhere in the region.) I will look forward to returning to this restaurant in the future. Highly recommend. A favorite for locals. Not a typical tourist restaurant.

The best fondue I have had and great sorbet. Really nice setting and restaurant. Good service and nice staff. A little awkward to get to by public transport but worth it!

If you're looking for a chalet-style place to eat fondue or raclette, then Chäsalp is a good choice. However, it's rather remote (located on a hill in the forests above the city). Don't go there without having made a reservation in advance. Rather suitable for larger groups.
