“Great atmosphere and service in Old Town Zurich...”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

This restaurant has a great location in Old Town Zurich...together with great atmosphere and service. It is a very large "Beer hall" restaurant...but I would still recommend making reservations in advance! Varied menu and fast and friendly service. Try "The Mayor's sword"!

“Must eat here when in Zurich”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

This former armory has delicious Swiss food and a fun atmosphere. We have been here many times. First we were taken by locals, now we are locals who take our visitors there. It has always been crowded, regardless of the time of day we have been there, so make reservations if you don't want to wait. We love the schnitzel, the sausages, the potato salad and the seasonal specialties. NOT for those counting calories! The combo salad plate was my only disspointment. Too much mayo/creamy sauces to be anywhere near a healthy salad. However, their seasonal salads can be light and delicious.

“good food, quick service”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Our tour guide give us the tip so we went there around noon (they don't close in the afternoon) Well, the food is really good and the service quick and efficient. The deco is quite strange with a lot of old weapons;)

“Decent value in Zurich and very good food”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

We tried theZeughauskeller in Zurich at the suggestion of a co-worker who described it as the only somewhat reasonable place to eat in a city famous for its price gouging.

The restaurant is located right off the bahnhofstrasse, the main pedestrian area and is very convenient when walking around. It definitely caters to tourists with a bizarre collection of medieval weapons, WW2 artillery, and competitive ski equipment on the walls and a huge area packed with tables, but the prices are not terrible for Zurich and the food is very good.

It also seems to be very popular with skiers coming from somewhere nearby that I couldn't figure out, mostly Europeans, so they must know something about where to eat.

We tried the house beer, which was ok but not the greatest I've had in a German speaking country. It was good, but not great.

The food however, was incredible. We elected to try some of their sausages as they, unlike the schnitzels, were less than 30 euros. I got the Neuchatel one which was a massive sausage with a huge side of potato salad. The sausage was amazing, probably the best I've ever had. It was nice and crispy but juicy in the middle. The potato salad was also great. It had some mustard in it and was very filling.

The service was good, but didn't really stand out. You could tell how busy they were and we didn't really see the waitress much except when ordering and when the food came.

I'd like to go back and try the "meat sword" they have which is, of course, a several food long sword with meat wrapped around it. It looked interesting but was definitely made for a bigger party.

“Worth a shot!”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

Interestingly housed in the 15th century old arsenal with decorations of guns and weapons of all sorts but you won't need them for the staff for the service is rapid firing, the food is high calibre and the beer in full ordinance.
What's more it's actually good vaue for Switzerland - we can't blame the resturanteurs for the strength of the Swiss franc. So a cosmopolitan busy place with a sense of hsitory in the midst of the main shopping area that is well worth visiting. Especially as it's only a short tram journey from the main station.
It's so unlike anything we have in the UK so why not give it a shot.
