A 3-1/2 star rating would be more appropriate. This is going to be a bit of a "mixed" review. We were staying for 2 nights at the Hotel Europe and decided to have dinner one night at Quaglinos, which is part of the hotel. The restaurant has fantastic ambience - it could have been in Paris!! I made a reservation and was told they would give us a "special table". I didn't ask for this, but was looking forward to seeing where they'd put us. When we arrived the restaurant wasn't full and there were several tables for 2 available. We were asked which table we'd like and we chose a table in the corner. They poo-pooed that request and placed us at the table beside it. Clearly the corner table was the best table for 2 in the restaurant. We thought perhaps it had been specifically requested by someone else and thought nothing more about it. Interestingly enough though, the corner table remained empty all evening long - hmmmmm, interesting! Anyway, the food was really good. My husband and I each had a salad and shared the Coquille St. Jacques. I had the monkfish & scallops and my husband had the moules "facon du chef" & pomme frites. Everything was delicious!! Our server on the other hand was almost indifferent. The service wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. We've never experienced service like this before. Moving on to breakfast: as I said we were staying at the hotel BUT didn't book directly with the hotel so we didn't have the breakfast plan. We chose the continental breakfast which was really good the "first" morning - the service was great that morning as well. But the second morning was a different story. Our server was a very timid "girl" who didn't seem to know what she was doing. Apparently the kitchen had run out of food for the continental breakfast people, even though the food plan guests had lots of food at the buffet table. We were given 2 buns & juice and for some reason getting coffee was also an issue. The server was very flustered with my questions about the lack of food so finally a more experienced server took over and brought coffee and more buns. The new server repeated that the kitchen had run out of food which we could see wasn't really true. Anyway, in the end we were comped our breakfast - so they did the right thing.
