Was there the first time last night, and everything was just perfect. Waiter was very friendly, translated all specials in English since we were there with friends who only spoke English. And this even though the menu was translated in English. Additionally to that the wine card is absolutely amazing. The restaurant is located just a few minutes walk from the Urania parking in the beautiful old town.

Will definitely go back very soon again!

You need to book as this restaurant deservedly is always busy.
It is closed on Saturday & Sunday.
I e mailed to reserve the table before we arrived in Zurich, we have eaten here before and the food is excellent there were 3 of us and we all raved about our meal, Rene the owner works hard to ensure both the kitchen and staff deliver which they do, the food quality and flavours are superb.
Try Swiss wines they are good.
You pay the price for good food and service and this is worth it.

Lindenhofkeller

Lindenhof

Zurich

We found this restaurant on Trip Adviser where it was rated the best restaurant in Zurich.

Given our German is somewhat basic, my wife's e-mail in English telling them we were coming for a special meal to celebrate my birthday, was interpreted as we wanted to ordering their famous " house speciality " - which is slow cooked veal. Having received their confirmation that two special veals were being held for us, it would have been churlish to have refused it. And anyway, it sounded lovely.

The restaurant is situated in a side street in Zurich that the taxi had great difficulty in reaching, as it seems all the surrounding streets were closed due to the road-works required for the new tram system. We were glad we had not tried to find it ourselves as we would probably still be there now.

Once we finally got there the restaurant has the appearance have having been there since god made apples and looks small from the outside but as you walk past the kitchens you arrive in a good sized courtyard, where many of the tables were situated.

The courtyard was surrounded by four story buildings not belonging to the restaurant, so there is the odd bit of laundry and pans cooling on window sills, which is not what you usually get to look at when waiting for your meal in a top notch restaurant, but sort of added to the charm.

Despite the e-mail mix-up the staff who served us spoke decent English (certainly better than our German), mind you we were slightly non-plussed by the amuse bouche of ox cheek being described to us as "ox-face!"

The gin martini aperitif was good and as total carnivores we thought the menu provided a terrific choice as it is very meat/game oriented but there were several fish dishes as well. (No vegetarian options on the menu we had but I imagine they are available in a restaurant of this calibre).

For starters we had sautéed goose liver and an Octopus dish - both were awesome. Despite wanting to devour it, I cut my liver into small pieces to enable me savour it as long as possible.

Main course was the ubiquitous veal, which was I think cooked sous vide (but I am not 100% sure), in any event it was very, very good. It can be ordered by weight which means if your appetite is smaller order the "ladies" portion, so you do not have any waste. My wife ordered the full portion on the understanding that I would have what she could not eat - but she polished off the lot it was so delicious! Accompanied by rosti potatoes and veg - all beautifully cooked too.

We shared a warm chocolate torte for dessert - also delicious.

Wine, special mention. The wine list is extensive but we wanted something Swiss - why not, we were in Switzerland. The patron came to the table and recommended a great wine.

All in all a great experience and one point of note with all of the restaurants we visited in Zurich - they were all of excellent quality, with portions that were more than ample, not a combination we find often.
As others have commented it is not cheap, but nowhere is in Zurich. But we felt it met our expectations and was worth it. If we return to Zurich we would certainly eat here again..

This is a good place for a dinner date. The food will not disappoint you. Seared tuna octopus carpaccio is the best. Likewise, the lobster and wine selections. Romantic atmosphere and the staff are very attentive.

Drove in with my friends for a dinner- place was crowded so waited for around 20-25 minutes to get a table for 5. There was a lot on the menu but seeing the price on right side, we limited our menu. Started with a nice hot shrimp soup which was amazing. We shared bison filet, beef tenderloin and Angus filet with truffle risotto among us which was freshly made with some authentic flavors added to it- tasty really. We were full so quit the dessert. No waiting for the food to be on our plates-service was really quick with some friendly staff. The only concern was the ‘bill’, as expected it was a nice amount but no complaints as we were satisfied. A nice complete meal. Go for it if you can spend some extra currency.
