“Only location was worth it”
Reviewed August 8, 2011

Four star hotel? I don't think so.
OK it is a boutique hotel but the whole concept was terrible. In a 30 sq. meter area you could find all in one (reception, welcome hall, bar, restaurant, breakfast room). Best of all the receptionist could tab you a beer at the same time as checking you in. The room was very basic the idea of a glass shower cabin in the middle of the room was is not the best of interior design.
The breakfast was terrible (the poorest we ever had).

I still can not understand why this hotel is included in the World Hotels 2011-2012.

The only good thing was the location since after a five minute walk you could reach city center.

This hotel is about a 15 min walk from the main station. The area isn't particularly great at night, but the rooms are good quality.

The fittings all looked very nice but be prepared for the glass walled shower located right in the bedroom if you are not travelling alone.

The light switches were overly complicated to control but everything was in good condition.

As a last minute deal I found the price exceptionally good even for an off-peak weekend in Zurich.

Breakfast is the standard European fare - rolls, some meat, juice and tea/coffee, and not particularly extensive. Free wifi was included - just ask at the front desk for a password.

Hotels are usually very expensive in Zurich. many cheaper hotels don't even have a private bathroom. In Flemings rooms are quite small and the bathroom is also very small but it is private. the shower is made of glass and it is situated in the middle of the room. breakfast is usually included. the position is very good. it is in the city center and the main attractions are within walking distance

Central location, 2-3 tramstops from the main station. Got a cheap deal in a single room for 88 chf with b-fast end of December (offpeak when most hotels are fairly cheap). Room with fairly modern design, but bathroom (shower) not really in a separate bathroom, but basically part of the main room. Have seen

I was staying at Fleming's Hotel Zurich for 2 nights, whilst I was visiting my company office close by. The room was very noisy ...there is so much traffic noise from the road that you can't watch TV ...or if so, you have to turn on the volume so loud that even my gran mother would feel bad;-(
Then, if you decide to close the window, the room without air conditioning system is really too warm and you start to hear then your neighbour talking on the phone as if he/she is in your room.
You have only one choice : to run out of the bedroom, cross the busy road to the trendy bar opposite the hotel and have a few drinks to forget what terrible sleep you will get later on... and make sure you've got some ear plugs with you !!
Regarding the cleaness, it is ok at a first glance, but when you look into details, the curtains need some cleaning, one lamp was broken, and one HUGE SPIDER was sleeping nicely for 2 nights in one of the seeling corner....
Poor hotel for 250.- Chfs (company rate they say, without breakfast)... NO COMMENT !
I used to go to Hotel Opera that is a real 4 stars Hotel in the city center, with a lot of charm.

I stayed here for one night. It's a great location for the centre of Zurich but the reception area is odd, in the bar/restaurant. the entrance to the rooms is behind a closed door which opens to a concrete area where there is a staircase and a lift. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The room was small but comfortable with robes/slippers and a quality shower. My room overlooked a service courtyard, it was not as clean as it could have been, the shower was clean but there seemed to be a lot of dust on the surfaces and in the airconditioning unit which did not work. The staff suggested I opened the window!! The restaurant was faulty towers. They food took ages to come and when it did it was stone cold. The worst aspect of this stay was the pillows which were in need of replacement and the fact that I was woken at 6am by shrieking and laughing by the staff in the courtyard outside my OPEN window. Overall I would say it was poor value for money.

I have been in other Fleming's Hotels in Europe and I must say that this one is standing out. Unfortunately, it does so in a negative way. The room I got to stay in for two nights was tiny, the size you would usually expect in Paris, but not in Zurich. Also, the room was a baking hot 34 degrees ! There was a small air conditioning unit in the cupboard under the TV which, besides terrible noise, had virtually no effect. First, I thought this was a technical fault, but then discovered that my colleagues had the exact same problem. The hotel staff could not help, not surprisingly, given that the only people present (during the whole stay) were two german stagiaires who even had to have someone from Germany call me back to listen to my complaint. The hotel itself is located quite centrally in the business district, while still in walking distance to Bahnhofstrasse, the main shopping area downtown Zurich. And by walking distance, I literally mean walking. There is no car park at the hotel and if you stop in front of the entrance even just to unload your luggage, you risk to be fined CHF 120 if you get caught.

The rooms are equipped like every other Fleming's hotel, although just half the size, which gives a very crammed feeling. Also, the walls of at least my room (No 11) could do with a fresh layer of paint, as the floor could also do with a proper carpet cleaning.

Last but not least, the matress of the bed felt like it was wrapped in plastic (under the sheets), which did not really help, given the room temperature.

I will probably stay in other Cities' Fleming's Hotels again, while definitely avoiding the one in Zurich.
