“Felt very unsafe”
Reviewed May 24, 2008

Frist, may I say once we got IN the room it appeared clean. It is next door to a strip club, in a very seedy and unsafe area of town. We felt we needed to be back to the hotel before dark to be safe. I was VERY uncomfortable as a woman there even the next morning at the continental breakfast....the male guests just made me uncomfortable. As a woman alone or with a family it would be Huge mistake to stay there. The breakfast wasn't all that good either. I felt very uncomfortable having my husband and son staying in that part of town. Very sad situation and would NOT recommend it to anyone.

In the Zurich red light district and surrounded by sex shops and clubs it would be a fun evening's adventure for a group of young guys on a bachelor party trip. My husband and I stayed there on New Year's eve and despite it surroundings, were not at all nervous about our safety. Zurich is a very safe town.

Room was newly renovated and sparkling clean.

Wished we had air conditioning or temperature control to lower the heat.

Certainly in the red light district but room surprisingly quiet. Hotel staff extremely pleasant and over accommodating. Close to bus stop and short distance to center of town. Breakfast was adequate. Had a slight room problem and was compensated above expectations. Highly recommend if your single male.

As a summary, it's a hotel in the red light district of the safest and nicest city I've been in.
The hotel isn't dirty and it isn't unsafe (relative to other truly scary places I've been to), but there's nothing positive to be said. It is *TRUELY* loud at night (until 5am on the Sunday that I was there). With the window closed, you can sleep, but can also clearly hear the drunks yelling or the music from the club across the street or the cars blasting music,...
There's also usually a few prostitutes outside of the hotel (less than 15 feet from the main door) and a few drug dealers about 200 feed down the street.
The rooms were pretty clean. The sheets had a few holes in them, but seemed generally OK.
The shower in the single-person room was very small. I frequently bumped into the walls. Also, the bathroom seemed to smell like cigar smoke.

  • Liked — Good location (close to town center), low price
  • Disliked — Very loud

We had the unfortunate experience of booking at the Hotel Regina in Switerland. After all efforts to book a known brand were unsuccessful as all hotels in Zurich were extremely booked due to the Ironman competition on June 24 /07 , I resorted to using pricelines hotel descriptions as a guide and settled on theRegina, the description on priceline is totallty misleading, although it was renovated in 2006 and claims to be located in Central Zurich, it is actually located in the heart of Zurich's red light district. The first thing we saw upon entering the hotel was a hooker exchanging her key with a gentleman in the lobby,we asked the hotel clerk if it would be noisy, he assured us it would not be, a blatant lie,as there was a strip club next door the noise did not subside until sometime around 6am,needless to say we were exhausted and concentrated on finding an alternate hotel. We moved to The Marriott which was palatial in contrast and enjoyed the balance of our stay in Zurich

I found the Regina to be a very pleasant and inexpensive stay.
The staff are Swiss to the core: polite and friendly and accomodating. The rooms are clean and sufficient and the
bar and wines available are perfectly fine. Prices for the rooms are very reasonable indeed.

If you don't have a family with small kids ( you probably won't want to expose them to seedy Langstrasse) you will love
your stay. Forget the kerb-crawlers and women looking for custom ( unless you like that sort of thing), you are right next to about 10 clubs and as many restuarants and eateries ( there is a delightful gentleman selling traditional sausage outside) .There is a real buzz in the air the like of which I have not seen in the UK or elsewhere.

I LOVE REGINA!

This hotel is certainly overpriced. It is located in the red light district of Zurich, lot of "serivce-offering" ladies hanging around. Some ppl might like it, but to me it was unpleasant. The bed was too soft and uncomfortable. There was a lot of street noise do the location. The bathroom was quite ugly. although I reserved the hotel with a Diners card, eventually they wouldn't allow me to pay by it. Weird... Won't recommend
