6th Sept. 2013
It's our 11th Wedding Anniversary today and as a treat, we decided to have lunch out together at the Kornhaus which is just opposite where we both work, it's about a ten minute walk from the main station heading towards the industry quarter of Zürich.
The bar-restaurant is situated on the busy corner of Limmatplatz and Langstrasse in Zürich and is cosy and very traditionally decored. At the time of writing, today's weather is beautiful so we were able to sit outside in the courtyard which is amazingly quiet and tranquil given where the restaurant is actually situated.
The lunchtime menu is quite small and we both ordered pork chop with garlic foam sauce, croquette potatoes for the Missus and french fries for me. We have been here a few times and always order the pork chop and it is absolutely delicious! It takes about 20-25 mins to arrive and is well worth the wait. The garlic sauce is very, very tasty too and compliments the chop perfectly. For me, I find this restaurant to serve the finest traditional Swiss cuisine, it is honest, hearty and robust, as Swiss cuisine should be.
Service is friendly, the two waitresses are efficient and you can tell they enjoy what they do.
Highly recommended, the restaurant is not in the city centre so it's not a tourist trap, rather it's a place frequented by the locals and as such you simply get better food and service compared to somewhere slap bang in the city centre, in my opinion.
