The Restaurant St. Gallerhof is conveniently located adjacent to the Zurich train station. The restaurant itself is fairly small but has a good atmosphere. They are open fairly late until 2200hrs. There is an English menu outside that I saw. There probably is a German one as well, but it wasn't adjacent to the English one. The menus themselves are the table mats, so they serve a dual purpose. There are both German and English versions, and the staff spoke good English as well so communication was not a problem.
Your selections are pretty much limited to soups, salads, pasta, meat selections and daily specials. While the food was good, the quality and presentation of the food reminded me of american diners. This isn't a bad thing, just a different level of service one can expect. The setting was simple, with a bar and TV sitting up on the wall showing sporting events.
The waiter was initially friendly and was quick in taking my order. However he never checked on how I was doing (a trend it seems in Zurich), but did make it a point to stare at me. Don't know if he was trying to think of what he was supposed to do next or expecting me to say something while I was eating.
Restaurant St. Gallerhof is an average restaurant, so as long as you don't go inside expecting too much you will have a good meal.
