As everyone else has noted, Zurich is expensive so in terms of price, this hotel is very reasonable. It's clean and roomy. The location is great, a short walk to the train station, restaurants and shops. The staff is very friendly and the front desk person helped us with booking a tour, which was great.

I recommend the hotel to anyone who is looking for a no-frills, clean, safe hotel room.

Switzerland is expensive therefore Zurich is expensive. Accommodation in Zurich is no exception.

This is a hotel in what I would call Swiss-modern (which means it is more akin to Scandinavian in its minimalism and functionalism). For about CHF270/night (average though this included a Sunday night that is noticeably cheaper), this hotel fits the bill on pretty much every level.

The hotel is very convenient. For those arriving by train (or from Kloten airport and then taking the train into Hauptbahnhof), the hotel is about 5 minutes away. The cobblestone streets may stretch any wheels you have on your luggage but it’s a flat walk. It is just around the corner from a major tram intersection so it is very easy to go where you need to.

The hotel administration seemed very efficient. Check-in was quick (yes it was Sunday night) but there were no issues and we were in the room in no time at all. The lift is a bit small but not uncomfortably so.

The room has obviously been recently renovated and the bathroom is very large (though I have a suspicion that a bathtub has been removed in the renovations – there is no bath). The furnishings are clean and modern, free use of a Nespresso machine with capsules is very handy (particularly in a city where coffee can cost CHF4 and up. There is an excellent choice of TV channels (in German, French and English).

The air conditioning as per some other reviews can be a little underpowered. It was not particularly hot for when we were there but even with the air conditioning at full, the fan speed wasn’t particularly good. One option is to close the bathroom door in order to reduce the floor space that is required to be cooled but this will be perennial problem until it is sorted.

The breakfast selection is ok, the bread selection is quite small and there are only a few cereals. The choice of meats was nice (including smoked salmon which was a step above in my opinion over many other continental breakfast buffets), however the coffee was decidedly average. Service when the breakfast room is busy can be a bit slow.

Like many business hotels, the rates for weekend stays are far cheaper on weekends and the hotel is even more of a bargain. However, looking at comparable or higher rated hotels in Zurich and the prices quickly rose which makes this a reasonable choice.

Just around the corner and down a small alleyway is a street full of pubs and other restaurants, convenient for a quick meal – they are open late but you cannot hear the noise from the hotel. Zurich prices prevail but they are far more reasonable than proper sit down restaurants. We found this handy when we weren’t particularly hungry one evening and wanted to get some quick take away.

Overall, a really handy little hotel, clean, comfortable and decently priced (in comparison to the country). Highly recommended.

Zurich is outrageously expensive, and hotel prices are no exception. At CHF 250 one has to accept a moderate level of comfort. The Rütli hotel does offer comfortable beds and a coffee maker in the room. The bathroom was spacious (no bath) and the airco did not really cool the room down. Opening a window is not recommended because of street noise. Breakfast choice is moderate (no bacon and eggs) and the hotel’s bar is not inviting. Internet is expensive, and cell phone coverage in the immediate surroundings is lousy (but that’s not the hotel’s fault, of course). The location is very good: within a short walking distance from the central railway station and right at the pittoresque historical area with cobblestone streets, old houses and romantic squares and an overwhelming choice of bars and restaurants (also expensive, unfortunately…).

I stayed here for two nights in a City room. The location was perfect - just what I wanted near the train station. It was still a short walk to shopping/the lake. The employees that I met were very friendly and accommodating. I thought the breakfast was a great perk. The artwork on the wall in the room was interesting..not my style, but overall the room and bathroom were very spacious!

The hotel has a decent standard (we had the King Size room, which is with double bed) with clean, spacious rooms, bathroom with bathtub and standard breakfast. Nothing particularly grand or fancy, but is nice enough. The hotel is perhaps a bit sterile, without personality and charm. The only thing which specifically is negative is that there is no free wi-fi in the rooms (a computer with free internet is available in the lobby, and they have the Hotspot pay wi-fi in the rooms). It's located in the charming old part of the city. Perhaps a bit expensive for something so average.

We stayed 1 night in September 2011. Short walk from the train station to hotel's convenient location between old town and station. Quiet in spite of the noise of the city. Contemporary room was clean and stylish and comfortable. Only a block to the river, and even less to the nearest Starbucks, for those who are disappointed with the tiny European cups of coffee.

This hotel is in a great location to explore the city. It's on a quiet street very near the main train station (so handy for the airport). It is a short stroll through the picturesque old quarter down to the lake.
The Room itself was clean, comfortable and spacious. The breakfast was a typical continental offering. The ground floor operation is pretty tight. This hotel is not cheap, but reasonable for Zurich, and a good basic base from which to explore the city. Recommended.
