“Super location, close to railway station”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013 via mobile

Hotel was very nice - clean, nice rooms, friendly staff.
Location is 10 minutes walk from the main railway station - view of the river and lots of shops, bars and restaurants nearby.
Breakfast buffet ok.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel in a double room. First of all, the biggest plus point for this hotel is this hotel is its location. Just located at a stone throw from the Zurich Main Station you can just take a train from the airport and drag your bags to the hotel. The rooms are nice, compact and efficient. Dont expect too many frills, though. I loved that little sit out our room had overlooking the Limmat river. The breakfast spread was good and had some good quality stuff. The 180 odd franks we paid per night may sound a little expensive by the standards of other cities. But this is Zurich, prices are crazy out here. Given that, I think we got a pretty good deal. The staff very friendly and helpful. The WLAN speeds were decent (both at the bar and rooms). All the major attractions in the city are just a short walk away (Opernhaus, Niederdorf, Lake etc). In addition the central tram stop is right outside the hotel. For those willing to splurge on taxis, they have one too outside the hotel. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel given its brilliant location and competitive pricing.

Room Tip: A couple of rooms in the first floor have a nice little sitout facing the river. Recommend that.

I dont know about most people but Hotel accommodation in Zurich is normally daylight extortion. Likewise the hotels are efficient but down right dull and not always in the best location. Hotel Limmatblick was a real find. Firstly, it sits on the quayside less less than 75m from the main railway station. It has a wonderful cafe frontage and its reception is actually the restaurant and bar. The staff however could not have been more friendly without the stuffy Swiss distance and you felt right in the swing of things. The rooms were very comfortable and frankly the same as any 5 star down the road. Location wise, we just had to stroll out to the buzzling back streets of Zurich old town with a massive choice of restaurants, bars, clubs and above all people having fun. Not usually seen in the rest of Switzerland. The breakfasts were excellent sipping a cappuccino on the quayside terrace. The bill was 120 CHF per room per night. That is an exceptional price for a city where the average is way into the 300 mark. For business or pleasure, look no further. This hotel is the real deal.

Room Tip: They have lakeside views. Just ask.

In a city where hotel prices are steep, Hotel Limmatblick is a find. If you appreciate cool design at a budget price, you'll like this place.

The reception is basically a cafe/bar - a lovely cafe in the morning and a popular hipster bar for artsy types at night.

Every room is named after an artist from the "dada" art movement from around 1920, and I think all come with an art reproduction from the time. Rooms are artsy, minimalistic in style - and smallish. Storage space is limited, so if you travel with huge suitcases you'll probably have to keep your luggage on the floor.

Rooms in the front have great views across the river.

POSITIVES
- Central location, right on the river
- Funky and artsy vibe
- Great views from the rooms in front
- Nice cafe/bar downstairs
- Free Wi-Fi (but it didn't work well when I stayed)

NEGATIVES
- Not the most practical rooms considering storage space for luggage
- Double beds are often two twin beds placed together

Room Tip: Some rooms have great views across the river (but these rooms usually costs extra)

Lovely small boutique hotel on Limmatquai, facing the Limmat River in old town area (Altstadt).
Super central to get around in Zurich. “Central” bus/tram station across the road; for trams/busses around Zurich with friendly English speaking staff to assist with tickets required to get around the city. Zurich HB Train station a 5 min walk across the Limmat River bridge; for trains within Switzerland and to other European destinations. Taxi rank located outside the hotel.
Niederdorf Strasse is directly behind hotel with lots of pubs, bars, restaurants and small unique boutiques. Lovely area with narrow cobbled stoned alley way leading to little places to discover.
Bahnhof Strasse (main shopping area) is a 10 min walk from hotel; with high fashion shops, supermarkets and department stores.
Room was modern and clean. Stayed in a small single room (room 31) facing the river which was nice. I’d imagine that if you stayed in a room facing Niederdorf Strasse it could be noisy at times. Reception/lobby and coffee shop/restaurant/Dada Bar all in same area at hotel entrance. Tables on pavement for quick meals and drinks. Evenings attract a number of people to their “Dada Bar” with nice jazz music played in the background. Staff was friendly & helpful. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: I stayed in a single room facing the Limmat River which was nice & not noisy at all. Not sure ab...

We chose Hotel Limmatblick beacuse of its proximity to the main railway station, so getting from the airport to the hotel was just a short walk. The hotel is part of a bar/cafe/hotel complex, themed reflecting the "DaDa-ist" art movement, which originated in Switzerland. The building is only small, and the rooms are of typical Europen city size (typically 15 sq m for a bedroom & and ensuite bathroom). Rooms are decorated in a modern theme, and the bathrooms, though small, are new & modern & reasonably practical.
We stayed in rooms facing the front (with views of the Limmat river) & in rooms facing the back, with views of the lively plaza area. There is no airconditioning, and Zurich can get hot.
Hence you need to sleep with an open window. The back rooms are far better for this, since activity in the plaza does eventually die down through the night. However the noise remians un-abated in the front rooms, from trams, vehicles & the taxi rank, that is just outside the building.

Breakfast is supplied in the cafe section of the building, and is a typical European style breakfast of bread, croissants, cheese & meat slices, yoghurt tubs, boiled eggs, spreads & jams, finished off with expresso coffee.

The staff all speak English & are helpful & friendly, and the free WiFi is very useful.

I would reccommend the Hotel Limmatblick.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the rear of the building to ensure a quieter nights sleep

The Limmatblick's location right across the river from the train station makes it a very convenient place to stay. You're right in the old town and many of the popular tourist stops are a short walk away. The area is loaded with shops and restaurants as well. The downside to all of those restaurants and bars is that the area is noisy late into the night. The rooms here are small and can get very warm, so you're probably going to have the windows open to keep cool. I strongly recommend a pair of earplugs unless you're a very heavy sleeper. The included breakfast is the usual Swiss affair with a mix of juice, cereal, bread, meat, and cheese. The staff were friendly enough and their English was OK. The Limmatblick is a acceptable choice if you're just making a brief stop in Zurich and want a simple, reasonably priced place to stay that's conveniently located.
