The Proposal: Residence in Art

My boyfriend booked this as a surprise for me, and what an excellent surprise! So unique, both spaces were comfortable, the beds were hotel quality, the space was clean and so interesting. We arrived late, after 10pm, we were met promptly and made to feel welcome. The space is a little hidden, but this is beneficial in the long run, room to sit outside and enjoy the urban garden. They provided us a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival, we invited Lenny one of the owners and his girlfriend hung to share so they chatted with us filling us in on must sees, local shows, directions, and various things they thought we might be interested in. They were available to us for the rest of our stay if we needed them, but left us our privacy. 100 percent recommend this odd experience! It wasn't in "the bustle" of anything, but definitely within walking distance of everything, they also had bikes to lend if needed. We were there in early summer, stayed in the van, slept with the doors open. Felt very safe. Loved this place.

Room Tip: We loved the van!

We very much enjoyed the Proposal, we love the concept of residing (comfortably) in art. The welcome was very warm, the breakfast delicious and prepared with affection. The whole place was just full of positive energy. We do hope that you will continue, we will be back that’s for sure.

Stayed here for 3 nights and had a chance to sleep in and experience best of both worlds in the gallery and the van.

Even though we have never met Lenny before, there's somehow a special feeling of staying over with a friend. From the first contact, he has been helpful with answering all questions and queries promptly. Breakfast was generous, and the bagels were delicious. Even on the last day when we had to leave at 6.15am, he woke up especially early to pack breakfast for us so that we can have them later!

The beds and pillows are so comfortable. The "bedrooms" in the galley and the van, I think, are what makes the whole experience special and sets this place apart from the rest of the B&B or hotels. While the bedroom is entirely private, you find yourself suddenly in the art gallery or out of the van when you step out of the door.

The place is only 5 mins walk from the nearest tram station, which will take you to the central train station in 10 min. The nearest train station to the airport is only 10min walk away as well.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this place if you're going to zurich. You should stay here, especially if you're an art fan.

We loved staying at The Proposal. Lenny and Jeremie, the gallery's owners, have mastered hospitality; they make you feel genuinely and personally welcome. I agree with the other reviews that say that it feels like staying at a close friend's house, but with more autonomy. They are helpful with tips about visiting Zurich, including restaurants and nightlife.

Some practical details to help you plan:
* Internet access: there is wireless internet throughout the gallery, protected by a password.
* Coffee/Tea: There is access to coffee and tea at all times in the small gallery kitchen. They also leave beer and wine in the kitchen with glasses.
* Location: It is in a quiet residential neighborhood, easily accessible to the old town and main train station by public transport. Take tram 14 from the main train station and get off at Schmeide Wiedikon. It is only about 4 blocks from there. It would take approximately 15-20 minutes to walk to old town in nice weather. If you're travelling to the airport, it's easy to catch the S-Bahn train at the nearby Bahnhof Wiedikon. It is a block or so from the river.
* Robes/slippers: each guest has his/her own set of robes and slippers to use. My husband raved about the slippers, saying that they were better than the ones used recently at a five-star hotel.
* Shower: It is shared with the other guest and is in the gallery.
* Privacy: It feels very private, despite being in a gallery, since the location of the gallery is set within a small courtyard off of the street.
* Breakfast: Delicious. Coffee, orange juice, and bagels with cream cheese, lox if you choose and veggies. It is served when you would like it to be served.

In short, it is both fun and practical to stay at the Proposal. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: We stayed in the inside room, which I'd recommend if you have a lot of luggage. There was a very...

I stayed here only for a night as it was only available for a night in May 2012. A unique B&B inside an Art Gallery. Location wise: It's in a quiet area, not in the center but quite quick to get there if you want to. Here you will meet 2 enthusiastic owner who treated me like an old friend. It feels like staying at your close friend's house sharing stories on places we have been etc. The room is comfy with fluffy pillow and an iPhone/iPod dock to put your own music. Breakfast is not huge but tasty bagels and really good coffee! Staying here I feel like a part of the exhibition in the gallery. Yet I also feel like I'm the owner of the place or minding the gallery. Oh..and there is a free bicycle to use if you want. Definitely a new experience for lodging!

Room Tip: There are only two rooms: One in the bus and one in the Gallery. If you have a big suitcase or need...

My wife and I spent one night in Zurich last month and couldn't be happier with The Proposal. Of the two rooms, we opted for the Bus, which, as advertised, was unlike any night's stay we've ever experienced; it was comfortable, cozy and surprisingly quiet.

Lenny and Jeremie, the 2 owners of The Proposal, treated us like family the second we stepped foot on the property. Jeremie took our bags, saw that we had been travelling all day, and offered us a 'welcome' beer, which couldn't have come at a better time.

The current art installation is the inflatable 'fat man,' which I still have video of 'deflating'

Do yourself a favor and stay at The Proposal when in Zurich, and if the Bus is available, go for it!

We had such a great time staying at Lenny and Jeremie's unique B&B. Their passion for art was apparent - it was very cool to hear about their experiences & idea of the Proposal come to life. The gallery/B&B itself was very clean, comfortable (bathrobes, heating blanket, slippers and plug converters available) and fun that I would not hesitate to go back. They even provided bikes for us to use whenever, which was super convenient considering Zurich is such a bike-friendly city. The Proposal is in a quiet safe neighborhood, but so close to all the action. Jeremie gave recommendations for happy hour/bar spots and Lenny made us a delicious breakfast the next morning. We regret we were only there one night so hope to return. Lenny & Jeremie were so friendly we hope to host them in San Francisco sometime!

Room Tip: We chose the van - had a great sleep there!
