I love eating at this fast food store. Sausage here is really good. And I come here before going to Kunsthaus Zürich (Museum of Art). As it opens early so I eat sausage as my late Breadfast here. Highly recommend if you like yummy street food.

We got into Zurich in the morning and by the time we got to the hotel to drop off luggage and figure out where we were it was time to find something for an early lunch. We read about Sternen Grill in the inflight magazine on the way over so we set off to find it and see how good the brats actually were. A ride on the #4 tram took us to the Opera House area and we looked around for the lines we read about....but nothing stood out. After discovering the square and lake we literally walked right into Sternen Grill...right across from one of the Tram stations. The lack of long lines was evident when we discovered we were there a half an hour before they opened at 10:30 am. They have some tables with umbrellas between their building and the neighboring one so we had a seat and waited patiently for them to open.

I'm used to the way brats are served in the States so we were surprised when we received 4 brats wrapped in paper, a loaf of bread and a few containers of mustard. The entire meal was hot, fresh and REALLY good, The bread was crusty and soft inside and the mustard was pretty spicy, but not so much that you couldn't enjoy it. The brats were item #1 on the menu and were excellent! grilled just right so they had a crisp casing, hot inside and very juicy. Combine this with a couple of cold beers and you have a great meal.

The restaurant isn't well marked but it's definitely worth finding and trying out. If you're by the Opera House in Zurich look for Sternen Grill, defiantly a good place to eat.

This place is legendary in Zurich. Dont get put off by the line. I ate here twice and both times the line of 30 people moved along and I was served in less than 10 minutes. I had a brat and potato salad the first time and servelat (tastes like an American hot dog) and salad the second time. Both were so yummy. The downstairs is casual, grab a stool and table kind of atmosphere. Upstairs is more of a restaurant.

Usually people stay in line on the ground floor or street level. This time we climbed up to the 1st one to enjoy more privacy and service at table. Despite the higher rate, it paid off. On a late summer evening when most people are away on vacation or at the lake, the place was quite empty inside. The balcony, however, was fully booked. We took the usual StGallen Bratwurst which came wrapped up in paper and the traditional Buerlibrot (bread) french fries and potato salad. This is not a gourmet choice but definitely the strength of the place. With a glass of cold beer it is a real experience. You watch the Opera and the trams criss-crossing the street. A relaxed atmosphere.
