Good bratwurst but service can be confusing ie they don't tell you to help yourself to bread and plates! We realised that we were missing these after looking around us at the locals . Good choice for low cost local bratwurst but very busy and make sure you have found the bread, plates and mustard sauce that go with your bratwurst.

I chose to not line up for the brats but instead went upstairs and got a seat on the terrace that looks onto the street. It is not tables but a long bar with chairs to pull upto. Ordered a beer, local. Then chose a type of sausage....I can't remember which one but it was mild in flavor, the texture was very fine. The bun it comes with doesn't come wrapped around the meat but is on the side and is homemade. There is a mustard if you want and you can pick which ever side you want. I found this to be a wonderful place to sit and eat and watch the world go by.

We chose to dine here after reading the rave reviews- at first it was a rather daunting experience due to having to queue up for the food, which meant that you could not really spend time asking the chefs behind the grill what each flavour/taste of sausage would be best for your palette as others are queuing up behind you, however we were fortunate to have a nice swiss lad in front of us who kindly explained the different types of sausages written on the blackboard (note: they are not in english). We opted for the local favourite- St Gallen Bratwurst which was really tasty and surprisingly quite filling! They do not fold the sausage into a hot-dog bun in the traditional sense, rather they encourage you to grab a sourdough roll and have that together with your sausage and some mustard. It was quite an experience to have the two combinations together. For the price, I would say this would be a great option if you plan to dine out and settle into the local culture, because we certainly found it very enjoyable.

Sternen offers the best white veal sausage (StGallen kalbwurst) in town. It is offered with Buerli Brot an excellent local roll and mustard. You order the sausage at the grill and the beer at the bar. It is frequented by all layers of the society: well-dressed ladies and gents just before the Opera, students, tourists, workers. A must when in Zurich. I never skip a visit when in town.

Small place with a walk up line for service. Fantastic brats with great french fries and locally made bread. A must dining joint in Zurich.

Also, for Zurich, reasonably priced. $20 (US) will get you lunch.
